With the draft in the books, the secondary is Miami's biggest question mark.

With Ramsey likely out the door after June 1, virtually every free agent corner is mentioned as a possible signing, and have to figure Grier brings in a veteran (Gilmore, Douglas, Samuel Jr.). Newsome's been mentioned as a trade candidate, as well and maybe a Ramsey trade would include a corner?

If the season started today, here's an interesting stat that points to Storm Duck as the leading contender at one corner. Duck had 358 snaps last year compared to just 133 for Cam Smith and 16 for Bonner. That potentially says a lot. That Weaver had more confidence in Duck than the other two, at the very minimum.

Marshall, 5th round, and two undrafted free agents ( Adams and Robinson) all have a shot at the 53 man roster. Johnson and Maitre are practice squad corners who impressed in training camp a year ago. Johnson is 6-3.

Marshall is a physical corner, whose inconsistent play dropped him. Adams had a 30 visit with Miami.

The hope is that several of these young corners emerge, most likely opposite a proven veteran.

Looks like Samuel jr is not an option anymore unfortunately ….might be a career ender.

The situation surrounding a standout cornerback has taken an unexpected turn. While his on-field performances have established him as one of the elite talents among free agents, persistent health issues have clouded his prospects. Despite his impressive record as a ball-hawking defender—demonstrated by notable interceptions, passes defensed, and consistent breakups—questions about his neck and shoulder condition have emerged as a major limiting factor.

Health Concerns Weigh Heavily
In recent weeks, discussions within the league have centered on his ongoing struggle with an injury that sidelined him for a significant portion of last season. Reports indicate that his recovery has not progressed as hoped, with renewed concerns over potential long-term implications. As one insider summed up the challenge, “It’s a medical thing. There is undoubtedly a red flag concerning his neck/shoulder health.” Such health issues not only affect his immediate performance but also cast long shadows over his future free agency prospects.

I had high hopes for Bonner but he bombed last year. He is probably not a good press corner like Weaver seems to covet, more of a zone guy. Cam Smith better step the ****up. I like Kohou inside also, don't think he has the long speed for a boundary corner. Think the kid out of Florida could be a sleeper, he was killing it last year before he got dinged.

Oh man, I feel bad for him. Also, at 25 I thought he'd be the best target for Miami, although his tackling/physical play isn't great.

It feels like now or never for Smith. Went back and looked at his college highlights and it's definitely impressive.

As of now, assuming Grier brings in a vet, I think the pecking order for the 2nd boundary would be:

Duck
Smith
Marshall (was drafted with Adams & Robinson available)
Adams (received a bigger contract than the others lower on the list)
Bonner (made roster last year over Johnson & Maitre)
Robinson
Johnson
Maitre

Forgot to mention Kohou, who PFF rated very highly last season. Kohou could compete for boundary, but his best position is in the slot.
Very highly?

They had him 86th of 222 CBs overall - 96 starting corners in the NFL if you give every team two boundaries and a slot. They had him 181st of 222 CBs in run defense. 51st of 222 in coverage.

I mean if that's 'very high' we're setting our bar very low! Sad thing is he is probably the best corner on the roster right now.

I think Kohou can excel at any position in the secondary. This might be the year we have more of a Safety playing in the slot....

Yea even if he passes a physical, which I doubt he can at this point, he would be a complete liability in the running game because you’d figure he would want to protect his shoulder/neck, so I think he would make a lot of business decisions like Holland did last year, albeit for different reasons.

Teams would scout that and just continually run to his side of the field and force the issue, not to mention the fact that one wrong hit and his career could be over since his neck is already in a weakened state.

He was my top target but with this news I think we should be all in on Rasul Douglas

Jason Marshall scouting report from NFL Draft Buzz

Scouting Report: Summary

Jason Marshall Jr. projects as a solid starting cornerback in the NFL, with the potential to develop into a true lockdown defender. His combination of size, press-man skills, and ball-hawking ability make him an attractive prospect for teams employing aggressive, man-heavy schemes. While he may need some refinement in his technique and run support, Marshall's physical tools and experience against top competition should allow him to contribute early in his career.

In the pros, Marshall will likely start his career as an outside cornerback in a defense that emphasizes press-man coverage. His ability to jam receivers at the line and disrupt timing will be valuable assets, particularly in the red zone. As he develops, Marshall could become a cornerstone of a secondary, capable of matching up with an opponent's top receiver. His versatility also allows for deployment in zone schemes, giving defensive coordinators flexibility in game planning.

While he may not be a day-one draft selection, Marshall's upside and collegiate production should see him come off the board in the early to middle rounds.

BJ Adams scouting report by Joe Schad Palm Beach Post

BJ Adams is a 6-foot-2, 182-pound cornerback who could have been drafted as high as the fifth round. Adams did not test exceptionally well but is ultra-competitive and wants to be physical. Can be prone to penalty. Adams has good frame and length and he plays with confidence. Can be a special teams contributor. Should compete for the final cornerback spot on the roster.

Ethan Robinson (CB, Minnesota) A Bucknell transfer who impressed with a 42" vertical at Pro Day. Undersized for an outside corner but shows potential as a nickelback with good ball skills.

Kohou can cover. He often blankets his man. Needs to get less handsy at times, but definitely a good find by Grier and Miami scouts.
Except for the fact that it was not Grier or the scouts.

IIRC, it was Josh Boyer who found him and pounded the table for him as an UDFA.
