A Deeper Dive at Corner

Is there more to the Kendall Fuller story, maybe? I know that he wasn't great, and certainly doesn't have the length they'd like......but at the same time, none of the guys on the roster challenged his starting role last year. He ranked 75th in coverage according to PFF, which is not ideal, but he did have his eggs scrambled twice last season. He's out there, and apparently not in high demand. Given the lack of starting credentials on the roster, why not offer a low-ball deal to bring in a recent starter that knows the system? (I mean as a complement to someone like Rasul Douglas or insert your favourite FA corner)

I’ve said a dozen times since camp ended last year.

Jason Maitre is my sleeper.

That kid showed sticky coverage and his guts, took in Reek all camp long and didn’t shy away once, all in my camp reports from last year.
What did you think of the Johnson kid when you saw him in camp last year?

With the draft in the books, the secondary is Miami's biggest question mark.

With Ramsey likely out the door after June 1, virtually every free agent corner is mentioned as a possible signing, and have to figure Grier brings in a veteran (Gilmore, Douglas, Samuel Jr.). Newsome's been mentioned as a trade candidate, as well and maybe a Ramsey trade would include a corner?

If the season started today, here's an interesting stat that points to Storm Duck as the leading contender at one corner. Duck had 358 snaps last year compared to just 133 for Cam Smith and 16 for Bonner. That potentially says a lot. That Weaver had more confidence in Duck than the other two, at the very minimum.

Marshall, 5th round, and two undrafted free agents ( Adams and Robinson) all have a shot at the 53 man roster. Johnson and Maitre are practice squad corners who impressed in training camp a year ago. Johnson is 6-3.

Marshall is a physical corner, whose inconsistent play dropped him. Adams had a 30 visit with Miami.

The hope is that several of these young corners emerge, most likely opposite a proven veteran.
I read good things on our 5th rd. Asante Trader pick. Compares him to Budda Baker. If he is close to that guy, it was a good pick. I remember the AZ game last year and BB was everywhere, in on a lot of tackles. Apparently, Weaver lobbied for that pick, so he must see something in him.

Great idea. Means we probably don't do it. Bringing him back on the cheap would add depth @ DB, which is sorely needed.

Not trying to be edgy but I keep forgetting Cam Smith is on the roster. I won't be surprised if he does't make it on the week 1 roster.

Not sure if it is attitude or brains but even when healthy (infrequent) I don't notice him on the field. Good stab at a round 2 prospect, he just hasn't become a pro yet.

Not optimistic about Smith.

This is going to be his last shot with the Dolphins.

Yeahh keeping Kohou in the slot would be best for our team

I agree, taking Kohou from the spot he thrives at, does not really fix our problem at the Boundry corner position, but instead opens another issue in the secondary for us.

There is a correlation between pass rush and pass coverage. Poor pass rush can contribute to poor pass coverage stats.

I understand Miami's draft strategy. But there were opportunities to improve the pass rush in this draft. Apparently, defensive end is another strong position in next year's draft, so maybe Grier is looking ahead.

Yeah he’ll be a nice in box safety/3rd safety. Also I haven’t seen many people mention Patrick Mcmorris. I know not much to go on since he was injured but I believe weaver really likes him and would of played significant snaps if it wasn’t for injury last year

Maybe, but if Chop, Phillips and Chubb are getting the majority of snaps, does it make sense to use high draft capital to add another guy?

Obviously, health is a question mark there but there's only so much you can do in one draft. Edge wasn't one of my top 3 priorities. Is it a gamble? Sure, but it was a gamble to some extent whatever we did.
