A Fun Read on the Mike Thomas Sign for the Pats Game

Do you really have to attack someone for posting a cool story, just because you've heard it before?

No problem, he is right, and I should have checked it out further before posting. I just missed it.

Let me try to add a little something which was not posted 100 times.

Biography: Two-year starter who finished with 66 tackles/3 interceptions/5 pass breakups as a senior after posting junior totals of 61/1/3.

Positives: Tough, versatile defensive back with marginal size for the next level. Plays with good quickness, shows a burst of closing speed and gets outside the numbers to make plays on the pass. Picks up assignments, works well with teammates and gets a nice jump to the play. Instinctive and stays with assignments. Works hard to get off blocks and voluntarily defends the run.

Negatives: Outmatched by larger receivers. Struggles in man coverage or making plays with his back to the ball. Not a strong wrap-up tackler.

Analysis: Thomas has been reliable the past two seasons at Stanford yet lacks the measurables to be anything other than a backup in the NFL. He offers potential in a zone system at cornerback or safety and comes with a special teams mentality.

Projection: FA

Thomas is 5'10" and 190. He is 25, and runs in the 4.5 range. Last year, after being picked up for the Pat's game, he payed a total of 16 snaps, with 14 in coverage, and a +1.3 grade.

On special team he made 1 tackle and 1 assist. He graded out with a +1 on punt cover, and the same +1.0 in KO cover, which is VG in a few games.

SF was not happy to lose him, and knows something about DB's. At wost, he is a VG special teams player, and could develop into something more.

As to watching his interview, he is very well spoken, intelligent, and appears to be of high character, and a great team mate.
