A Look Ahead- Dolphins 2015 Salary Cap

He did not sign Gibson. ALso not sure a dead money hit of 5 million is a minimal hit for cutting Albert in year 3 but that's with all contracts.
Mitchells contract is a great one in that its wasy to get out of .

Thanks, corrected Gibson. I looked at Albert getting only $2.5M in salary this year before going to $9M the last 4 years. This allows the cap space now, with a good trade off in 2 years with the $5M dead money. It's a lot better than Wallace taking $1M last year, and $15M this year.

Why are we talking about next year's cap? I'll join though, Wheeler and Ellerbe are gone. Wallace if he performs we this season then his salary is easily worth it. High hopes for him this season. Hartline is a eh maybe just because his production doesn't match his pay, he's not a touchdown maker and is decent between the 20s, maybe a restructre.

Pouncey on the field deserves a new deal as does Clay and Odrick, they won't break the bank though, Clay and Odrick that is.

If Tannehill turns it on we'l use the 5th year option or long term sign him. Big money for either.

Next year's cap has a bearing on what every NFL team does this year in cuts, trades, extensions, and carry over cap space. For example, some have talked about trading Gibson, and it shows the cost this year vs next. Some have talked about getting rid of other players, and it shows the same. Some have talked about extending Pouncey, Clay, and Odrick this year, and it shows what we will have next year to do so.

It also shows what effect Hickey has had in his signings vs what Ireland has done, with a rough idea of his plans. JMO

Ellerbe is so gone it ain't even funny.

Mike Wallace's deal is mostly frontloaded, so if he performs well in an offense that actually ****ing tries to make use of his abilities, he won't be going anywhere.

Ellerbe would have to be a Pro Bowl LB to pay him an $8.4M salary next year. Wonder what the odds on that would be?

Thanks for the Sark Attack Phin. :) But, you were the one who asked. I was just answering the question. "You're welcome."

The one issue I have is you quote overthecap numbers, yet overthecap has said many times before nobody knows how much the cap will increase. The big money-saver will be Wallace, who will either be renegotiated or cut.

Btw, I'm talking about the range, not the specific figure. For example, last year's increase might or might not be a one-year fluke. It might not even be a fluke, if you know what I mean, but politics-driven (it's NFLPA election year). So whoever fed that figure was motivated by self-interest or league-interest, but most likely not by real knowledge.

Cutting Wallace is cap disaster. No way Jason from OTC said that but, re-neg was/is an option.

I watch cap info closely, and have for years. Before this year's cap was set, I posted both sides of the union and agents expecting a $10-15M rise, and some owners, led by Craft saying it would be a gradual $5M a year increase. The debate was based on the HUGE increase in TV revenue, shared by owners and players, and when it would take effect on the cap, nothing to do with politics or anything else.

The other factor which came into play was the earlier cap (2 years ago I think) when the union traded off insurance benefits to stabilize it so it would not drop, and really wreak havoc with teams. That issue was resolved, and the cap took a substantial jump, which many did not see happening. I believed it would jump, and posted the same.

No one knows for sure what next year's cap will be but. based on the info I have seen, a $10-15M increase is projected, and I believe that will happen.

I got mixed up with the Wallace numbers, I thought his salary was higher, but no, 12m cap hit is manageable

That's next year. and $17M this year, which is why some thought about a re-neg if needed, and it was not. So, we took the hit, and have better options next year depending on how he plays. The salary cap is somewhat boring but, unfortunately, something the team has to factor in on most moves they make or pass on.

LOL man its all good fun, I'm just messin with you.

I know all that, but I think as a fan I don't really care about the salary cap before this season starts. I wanna see how these guys perform before I truly give me opinion on whether there cut or may be cut.

Too many unknown factors for me to have an opinion now. Mostly if we are a playoff team.

Agreed. Much also depends on the development of younger draft picks who are still playing under their rookie deals.

I really didn't know you were messin with me. Thanks but, not worth a MVP nomination. JK, and back at ya. :)
