"Matt Flynn was set to become this offseason's free-agent quarterback du jour, that is, until Peyton Manning was flung into the waters.

The Packers backup naturally was linked to Joe Philbin -- his old coach -- and the Dolphins, but Miami owner Stephen Ross reportedly is breathing fire, calling for a "full-court press" on Manning. Flynn might be an afterthought in South Beach, but Packers star Aaron Rodgers believes his teammate is the real deal."

"The team that gets Matt is going to be very happy, I can promise you," Rodgers told SI's Peter King. "They'll be getting a top-15 quarterback."

Top 15? "

Not a massive ringing endorsement, but indication that Rodgers believes Flynn is ready to become an NFL starter."

Thoughts? I wonder if Philbin and Ireland feel the same way? Considering we had the 12th rated QB in the NFL last season by QB rating, which I know is not the end all stat, but.....just bringing to the table for discussion.

11. Philip Rivers (88.7 QB rating)
12. Matt Moore (87.1)
13. Jay Cutler (85.7)
14. Michael Vick (84.9)
15. Cam Newton (84.5
)

im sure aaron exaggerated a tad about his buddy, i bet he meant a top 25 qb.

You gotta wonder a bit, don't ya? Basically, he just said that his buddy Flynn will be an average / middle of the pack starting QB in the NFL. So, if he was just trying to be nice for his friends sake, what does he really think?

Top 15 huh. So 15th. After all, if he felt top 10, he would say top 10. Top 5 etc....

So Rodgers projects him to be the 15th best QB. There are 32 teams. 15 is middle of the pack. 15 = MEDIOCRE.

No thanks.

Insert Dr Evil saying.... "Why settle for 15th when you could have..... 1st :ponder:

current nfl qbs who are better than flynn NOT in a specific order without a doubt.

1. brady, 2. big ben, 3. flacco, 4. peyton, 5. rivers, 6. eli, 7. vick, 8. romo, 9. cutler, 10. brees. 11. rodgers, 12, schaub, 13. stafford, 14.newton, 15.ryan.

those are prob the top 15 in most peoples books, obviously not in that order. i dont see flynn being better than any of those guys, especially in the near future.

now here are qbs who are far from great, but have shown potential at times for a consistent period in their nfl career, as opposed to 1 game here and their. alex smith, sanchez, moore, fitzpatrick, dalton, cassell, campbell, etc.

obviosuly the 2nd list is far from great qbs, but no one here can say as of now that flynn is flat out better than any of those guys.

either way, hes not top 15, and he prob is more in line with the 2nd tier qbs like the ones listed above, and maybe even a bit worse, although a guy like dalton can potentially move into top 15 territory, and most people expect luck to move into that territory quickly, and eventually much higher.

aaron rodgers maybe a great qb, but thats not exactly a great endorsement for flynn, especially considering the fact that its coming from his great friend and that is the best hes got to say about him, top 15.

Flynn looked great the few times he started. But gotta go all out for Manning, Flynn should be a backup choice... pun intended

Not what I would call a "ringing endorsement" for the mystery prize behind "Curtain Number 3." I'm thinking that old saying: "It's better toi dance with the devil you know than the one you don't" may resonate when it comes to Moore vs Flynn. :idk:

This thread has the potential turn into one of those where a "certain poster," who is a fan of a team we all hate, shows up and proclaims to us all, over and over again, that his teams QB is a "franchise QB," and better than just about every QB on that list. I am not mentioneing any names, but be on the lookout for "you know who." And if this thread keeps going down this road and one of you guys say the magic words, I am certain he will appear, almost as if by magic.

I am going to get my popcorn now...

I wouldn’t under estimate the value of a consistent top 15 QB. Having said that, If Philbin & Ireland don’t view Flynn as closer to top 10 then I think we should seriously consider other options.

Also, a top 15 QB as a backup is pretty freakin good!! Aaron Rodgers did NOT say that Flynn would never be better than a top 15 QB. Not that I want Flynnas our QB, I am just trying to keep Rodger's statement in it's proper context.

Top 15?? If that's the best he could say short of extreme BS ... its a DISS!!

Many can/do/did say that about Henne & Sancheez too ... Top 15 ... Ouchy!!

Philbin knows Flynn better than Moore.

If you list the top 15 Qb's, like this guy did. Rodgers saying that Flynn is "in the top 15" ain't that bad. Again I am not saying I want Flynn as our QB but "in the top 15" is not bad company.

If he is top 15 and we sign him he will still be the 2nd best QB in our division...

(wait for it)
