Abramson: The feeling is Gaine is the guy

I really don't understand this silly notion that Marino could come in and play the role Elway plays in Denver. Marino has done nothing to prepare himself for that role. When he had an opportunity years back, to travel that road, he quit on us. Elway had something in him driving him to a FO role; Marino has demonstrated no such drive.

If this were to happen, it would likely be a one year fix anyway. Who else do you expect to get in this middle man role? Somebody who knows that if it doesn't work out he's likely out of the door after just one season....

Again I don't want this to happen. I don't particularly like the idea of employing some type of middle man. I want to hire a real GM but if this is the structure they are going to insist on good luck finding any outstanding candidate to fill the role above Gaine....

I'd be fine with Gaine, but Abramson doesn't exactly say that people believe Gaine is the guy. He says people think he could be. I've also read that very few expect Gaine to be promoted.

We'll see though, Gaine fits a lot of the criteria, and is better at dealing with people than Ireland was.

Ross

Aponte

Gaine

Joe

Joe gets more power after all of this...

Where have I heard this before...lol.

I like Gaine and think he has some promise. However, at the end of the day, the issue is still this team is not coached very well and the owner is going to double down on him to try to turn this around. Unreal.

again, Gaine is qualified in his own right, but Abramson does not say the feeling is Gaine is the guy

What has Gaine done to prove he is a step up in the area of talent evaluation?

The "overseer" will be Aponte not a name like Polian, Marino or Pioli.

Philbin should have more than a year. This GM thing is not a 1 year fix. It is a long term fix for this long term coach. Gaine is an Ireland leftover, he is not qualified.

Do you know his body of work? He is well respected around the league and has interviewed for several gm openings.

Not qualified? According to who....You?

If Gaine is the guy, just remember that just because he was under Ireland doesn't mean he's the same guy. Matt Millen was an awful GM with talent evaluation, but Martin Mayhew (who was his right hand man) actually has proven to be a decent draft guy for the Lions.

What do you think, was I speaking for myself or someone else?

Another thing according to me, anyone who has ever worked under Ireland as a scout should automatically be disqualified for any position with the Miami Dolphins. This also means that those who are disqualified but are currently employed should be fired, according to me.

What GM would take the job after the previous guy was fired after one year?

It's not a perfect idea, but Gaine has been here 6 years as well, and him and Philbin could in a sense be considered a package deal going into next season. Obviously a one year tenure is not likely unless the team tanks . . . but I don't think it's unreasonable considering both guys have put in time here in Miami. If the team underperforms, Ross could wash his hands with everybody and starts fresh.

Ross has proven to be an owner who wants to win and gives people time (Jeff Ireland). I don't necessarily believe it would be a turn off for future GM prospects.

I'm fine with Philbin having final say on his roster. The GM should be evaluating players outside of the organization - draft prospects and NFL free agents. I've always disliked the idea of a GM forcing players on a coach, as per the Dave Hyde article that was published last night suggesting Ireland forced Philbin and Sparano's hand with the rosters. We already know what we have in Gaine, so if he gets promoted, its because we already know he can work with Philbin and within the parameters that are set for him. I'm ok with Gaine.
