In 2011, Karlos Dansby was not in the top ten for any major statistical category at the linebacker position in the entire NFL. These categories include combined tackles, sacks, interceptions, touchdowns, and forced fumbles. In fact, Mr. Dansby had recorded more solo tackles in his last two years in Arizona then he has in his first two seasons in Miami. So exactly how, or maybe a more fitting question would be why do the Miami Dolphins seem to breed underachieving linebackers who talk a good game but don't back it up with their play on the field?
Well I think it all goes back to Zack Thomas. He was arguably the most underrated overachieving linebacker in NFL history. He was the constant professional on and off the field. And most importantly he had heart and was a leader.
Now, fast forward to today and you can clearly still feel the void left by Zack. It appears to me that the Dolphins defense has all the talent in the world to be a force in the NFL...but do they have the heart? That IMO is still up in the air. And even though I like Karlos Dansby, I can't help but question his heart. Not his toughness, but his heart. Because if you are truly the best linbacker in the NFL, you don't have to tell us each year, you show us with your play instead.
So with that said, here is hoping the sam linebacker position brings out the best in Karlos, and hopefully he can show us all what he's been trying to tell the whole planet (or whoever's listening), that he is indeed the best linebacker in the league. So pay attention!
