Adrian Peterson: NFL=Modern-day Slavery

see, thats exactly what im talking about.the media is all about causing a stir and selling articles.they couldn't care less what he actually meant.could he have chosen his words differently?sure, but the focus they have you SEE, is the "slave" thing.
and that is the sole reason why the media sucks. They are great for reporting news, the only trouble is, they are going for ratings and views, not accuracy.

you all do understand that it was just a comparison right?like in terms of power/leverage...

of course his statements are hyperbolic, but we have the ability to use higher level thinking and not take words literally, right?

it's funny that people took to term that he said that he's comparing NFL to modern day slavery, but not taking to term the entire message.

what he said is true, and that goes for black and white players alike, they are all indeed glorified slaves...

I always thought actual slaves never had the choice to become a slave, they were forced into it. The same clearly cannot be said about professional athletes.

the term "slave" can be applied here because nfl players work for the organization called the NFL.the owners are using these players to fatten their pockets.just because they are paid on up much bigger scale than you and i doesn't exclude them from being mistreated.

Wow, what a ****in' moron. Really?! Modern day slavery?!

Hey AP, you can walk away from your millions for playing a kid's game any time you want.

I agree, Adrian Petersen is a loser for even making that absurd remark and comparison.

I agree with all of your posts in this forum about the media. One thing I want to point out though, is the bolded statement is no different than any business out there. The difference is that they are a union, which can push their demands through the roof. In business, if an employee wants more money, the owner decides, do I give him a raise or do I settle for a lesser talent? If the owner chooses lesser talent, then the employee take his skills elsewhere. If he can't find a job, then maybe he needs to lower his asking price. None of this is possible because of the freaking union. If the union goes away, the game of football with be much more enjoyable and affordable for fans. And it is about the fans, not the players, because if the fans don't go to the games, the NFL ceases to exist anyway, and the players, for the most part can go make $10-$15 and try to pay their bills that way.

so really what it all boils down to is control and greed...

Exactly. As a business owner, my employees are not going to tell me how much they have to be paid. They can tell me what they want, and then it is my choice whether to honor it or move along. A successful business is a balance between productivity and budget. No boss likes being told what to do, or how much to pay, nor should they. Ross is invested nearly a billion dollars into the Dolphins. Nobody should be telling him what he has to do with that money, but himself. He owns the business.

no secret that the system has a huge flaw...

And they have the FREEDOM to find employment doing the types of jobs us 'non-slaves' do.....along with a fraction of the salary NFL players make.
BTW, many of the owners earned their wealth by taking huge financial risks. Their ownership of NFL franchises are business investments. The players are employees and are not being forced to play in the NFL. Since when are employees of any company entitled to profit sharing. That is usually reserved for business partners (investors).
The use of the term 'slavery' is an insult to those around the world in some 3rd world countries who truly are slaves.
