AFC East Discussion: Where do Dolphins Rank?

Not disagreeing that's just crazy to think we have 2 double digit sack ends plus jordan, starks is a pro bowler and Mitchel is the sleeper with potential to break out. And this team is 3rd best in the division in this area

Miami has a good DL, they have a good D. I really think ours is the best, I may be overrating them a bit but they were excellent most of last year and now have more experience.

i personally think sf nailed it...across the board...miams way better on the edge than the jets are with the dline but the jets got a legit front 3 in it's 34

Question. Who else does new England have outside of Revis in the DBs? Are we just saying revis makes them that good alone? I remember outside of Talib last year they were not very good. And They lost talib

Really hard to compare Defensive Lines. There is no real stat to say which teams is better. But one of the ones I would look at is defensive yards allowed.
If you filter teams by least yards allowed you will find some of the best D-Lines in the NFL.

Unfortunately the Bills were tops on that list last year (10th) followed by Jets (11th) and Miami (21st) and New England (26th) bringing up the rear.

While we have good players on the D-Line they didn't all perform together last year and form the dominant wall that is need to be one of the top D's.
Wake being injured was one that really shot us down. A lot of stunting to get pressure put us out of place on the D-Line.
Hopefully they all play better this year with no injuries and we might have a chance to be tops.

Talib isn't Revis, Revis is the best corner in the game when healthy and he's healthy again.

The stat I like from our DL was 3.4 YPC allowed which was best in the NFL. I am really excited to see the next step in the development of our DL.

mccourty is damn good at safety for the pats...the depth after browner is good too at corner...no issue with new england having the top secondary

I believe Miami's goal is to be the best at passing and the best at stopping the pass and outside of QB we could now be ranked first in all of those categories. So now we're a lot closer to seeing how that strategy pays off in terms of wins and losses.

I stand corrected that's why I ask people who know better then I do. I have tunnel vision sometimes all I pay attention to are the dolphins

Every thing looks fairly reasonable but i dont see how the Dolphins dont have the best DL in the Division? Thats our bread and butter and the strongest part of our team. Counting Depth who on this division has it better than us? no one in my opinion

I agree with you on this, Miami's D-line may not be as good against the run as the other three teams, but Miami's pass-rush this year is going to be light years better then the next AFC east best pass-rushing team, which is probably the Bills.

Miami will have starting on the corners Wake, other then Mario, the most proven and best pass-rusher in the AFC East and NFL, and Vernon who last year looked like he can be a top pass-rusher in his own right. After that, behind them you have Jordan who is looking like a defensive player that was drafted top 3 last year, Shelby, a player that could have one of the most dramatic rises from last season of any of the DEs, and finally you have rookie Fede, who just continues to impress and will be tough to not keep off the roster.

That's five quality DEs, and no matter who is on the field, will be bring high impact pressure (Something none of the other 3 teams can do), then add to that from the interior, players like Stark, Odrick, and Mitchell can all bring the pressure from the middle and collapse the pocket at any moment.

I understand why some may not give Miami's d-line that much respect considering how lopsided they may be against the run, but if this D-line is at the very least solid against the run, with what this line will do pass-rushing wise, it will elevate them in my eye as the best D-line in the AFC East...easily.

The Bills had 57 sacks last year. 3 players in double digits. Pretty hard to beat that pass rush.

I like my Dolphins but "C'mon man"

What knocks Buf down for me is they allowed 4.4 YPC but they are still very worthy of the discussion for top spot.

Yep, you need a good running game to beat the Bills D-Line. Go after their weakness. Not saying they are #1 but in consideration.

But as far as pass rush, nobody in the division is close.

I'm not a Mario Williams guy, I think he's very overrated but even w/ that they have the best pass rush heading into the season though if Jordan can step up when he gets back and Coples/Babin step up for us it will be much closer.

Wake because of injury was not the same Wake last year, Jordan did little last year with his Shoulder issues, if you have been reading what has been happening, you have probably heard both these guys are different men this year, and Shelby could end having a huge season from all reports. Vernon is still the same player as last year, and it seems Fede is also coming on.

You can't really predict how players are going to play because of past years, you have evaluate the players. The Bills have some quality players as do the Jets, but what makes Miami's special, is they are deep, Miami can rotate and have quality Pass-rusher all the time.
