AFC East now and in the future.

The big difference for the Jets is Idzak as GM. They have gone from Tannenbaum, a GM who spent money like a drunken sailor eg Revis and Buttfumble, to Idzak, a GM tightwad who is extremely cautious about every player purchased and drafted. Effectively going from one extreme to the other. In 2013 Idzak inherited a salary cap mess and he did a good job of addressing some needs by being a value shopper. However, I strongly doubt that Geno Smith is the solution at QB and unless they get lucky they still don't have a QB. It will be interesting if Vick is given the opportunity. At best, he's just an interim solution to a major problem.
After many years of observing the Dolphins try to get by without a really decent QB. Tannehill is our best chance in 14 years - (Chad Pennington was like an Indian Summer that lasted too briefly to enjoy), my conclusion is that the Jets will continue to have average years until they get the right QB for the long term. The danger of drafting the likes of a Mark S'anchez or Chad Henne is that they will continue to give you some false hope for years and time will be wasted. The Jets need to know very quickly if Geno Smith is a potential savior or a total failure. He was blessed to have college teammates like Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey at West Virginia that helped to make him look decent. Austin was electric in college but may be just too small to make it in the NFL against really good Defenses. Geno has an enormous ego but seems as dumb as a rock. There aren't too many really dumb QBs who ultimately make it in the NFL. The Jets will be just mediocre until they get a QB who they can build on. In Geno and Vick they have the pieces for Dumb and Dumber 2.

The salary cap mess was overblown, he inherited a great situation knowing guys that needed to be cut and knowing the owner wanted to trade the best corner in the game to get picks. He is frugal, he protects picks and it is the opposite of tannebaum who also did a good job for us but in a different way.

if geno is a $anchez we will be extremely lucky. He has a lot to prove, Mark was good here until the talent around him eroded to the point of playing w/ the worst weapons in the league. Geno finished very strong last year, is in year 2 of marty's system and now actually has decent NFL talent around him. We will learn a lot about geno this year.

You don't need a superstar QB to win or Peyton would have 5 SBs and guys like Wilson, Flacco, Eli, etc... wouldn't win.

So will the rest of the league.

Honestly, each team has strengths and weaknesses for the future. A lot of it depends on how the young QBs develop.

I do think it helps us and the Jets that neither has a Parcells student at GM. I know Billicheck was one as well, but he and his staff continuously adapted while Tannenbaum and Ireland did not adapt their views. Are Idzik and Hickey the guys to lead the teams further? No clue really. I can't find much to complain about Hickey's first offseason (outside of the whole process of hiring him), and while I won't comment on the Jets FA/Draft, I do think Idzik did a decent job fixing a mess of a cap that was left to him.

Buffalo has a lot of potential at the skills positions. Secondary has some holes, but if EJ Manuel develops they could be good. But Buffalo always seems to mess something up when it looks like they're ready to turn the corner/

Pats? I guess it all depends on Jimmy Garoppolo and Gronk's health. I think they still have decent talent on their team once Brady call's it quits, but I dunno if they're great.

I wouldn't put Tannenbaum and Ireland in the same category, Mike built legit contenders, Ireland never did that.

Mike was a MUCH better GM than parcells was for us.

The jets don't have a qb and it looks like buffalo doesn't either...they will both tread water til they get one...

yet one of those QBs outplayed the sure thing in Miami in Ryan's biggest game of his life and Buf's backup outplayed Ryan in the 2 Buf-Mia games.

None of us know if we have a QB of the future, we all hope.

How do you not understand the simple concept that just because a qb has a better game (which is very questionable) than the qb on the losing team, does not mean the winning qb is better than the qb that lost. The two do not relate in any way possible. It doesn't even bring in the question that one qb COULD be better than the other.

it would be like me saying tannehill had a better game than brady in game 2, so it's questionable that tannehill is better than brady. sounds dumb right? well that's what you sound like. The two are not related.

Please show me where I said geno is better? I simply stated a fact it's a bad sign that ryan melted in his biggest games. Going into 2013 I rank Ryan #2 behind Brady but this notion that ryan is head and shoulders ahead of the others is asinine.

I really wish people would read what I post instead of taking a sentence and forming their own opinion of what I post.

dude, you used ,"one of those QBs outplayed", as if to bring into question that had/has anything to do with another qb's ability to be good. it has nothing to do with how good or bad Tannehill is. it was a retarded, and troll like post. If you watch the games, you would see Tannehill is way more consistant and a much better qb than Geno and Manuel. anyone that watches football, from a kid just learning the sport, up to a NFL GM can see that. Right now, Tannehill is heads and shoulders above Geno and Manuel. No telling about the future, but right now, that's just the way it is.

and before you get your panties in a bunch, i'm not saying tannehill is the greatest qb ever. I think he's above average. while Geno and Manuel are below average, at this point. That's head and shoulders above them, IMO.

Just stating a fact, geno badly outplayed Ryan in the biggest game of Ryan's career where Ryan was at home and had more talent to work with.

Tannehill was better last year no doubt about it but Geno finished stronger and did so w/ less talent around him. There are questions for all the non-Brady QBs, to assume Ryan is some sort of sure thing is silly especially the way he played w/ the light shining brightest.

Tannehill isn't head and shoulders above anyone, he had decent #s that fooled many people but he was not good last year.

LMAO! "Badly outplayed". hahaha Love your contradictory to yourself. Tannehill was better last year NO DOUBT. He wasn't good last year though. Geno ended the season good though.

So if Tannehill was not good last year, but was better than geno, what does that make him?

Hey man, Tannehill badly outplayed Brady. That's just a fact.

In week 17 he badly outplayed him. One QB looked poised, confident and the other was Ryan Tannehill.

geno was awful most of the year, overall he was not good.

Brady showed up and competed w/ less weapons to throw to. Ryan didn't do that in week 17 w/ more weapons.

It must suck to have a QB who looked so good, so confident, so poised, yet only throw for 190 yds, 0 TD's...oh, but he ran good! Awesome job by the quarterback, running the ball! lol

Oh, so brady showed up, and tannehill still badly outplayed him.

Bye Bye credibility
Geno is terrible will always be terrible. The Jets would whip our ass with a middle of the pack qb IMO

I think the Dolphins are the most likely and im not a homer. Like everyone mentioned its all on RT, he takes the step we think/hope and we win 10 games. he stays the same we win 7or 8.

That said, RT and 100x better chance of being a franchise than Geno smith lol..Also much more likely than EJ Manuel-- we have that going for us
