AFC East now and in the future.

honestly, it's not hard to play better than what tannehill did that day. So that's not saying much. Still, bringing up geno smith's less than average play, and thinking it somehow proves that tannehill is not as good, because of how he played, is pretty ridiculous.

And I think the majority of fins fans know that tannehill still needs to improve, but he is still currently heads and shoulders above any other qb in the division, not brady.

The problem is you look at silly things like yardage. geno played very well that day regardless of the yards. You don't have to throw for 300 yds to have a good game.

AGAIN, I still give Ryan the edge for last year- he was better and I think he is better going into 2014 but that can change.

To say he is head and shoulders above anyone not named Brady means you don't get it. If he was he would have outplayed geno in his biggest game w/ all the advantages he had. He was better last year but it's a lot closer than you think heading into 2014.

no, you don't need to throw for 300yds. I never said you did, but he didn't even throw for 200. And correct me if i'm wrong, but in the nfl, winning is really all that matters. and to win, you have to score points. How many points did geno put up? 0TD's. So a team can win, despite poor qb play. it's happened time and time again. it's ok. Maybe geno didn't play poorly, but he did just enough not to screw up. i'm sorry, but you won't win many games that way.

And you are the one that doesn't get it. Would you say brady is heads and shoulders above any qb in the division? I'm guessing the answer is yes. Him alone, no matter who else is on the team, should be able to beat a team with a qb that is far lesser than brady, but wait! Tannehill badly outplayed brady. oh, but brady was competitive? Then would that be saying more about the defenses? obviously the jets defense played well covering passes in the last game. Again, what geno did has no influence on how good or bad tannehill played, or will play in the future. They are never on the field at the same time. So you bringing up geno smith was a retarded statement. that's all there is to it.

so he doesn't get any credit for RUSHING for a TD? or setting up the other TD?

Ryan had the more talented team around him compared to Brady's Pats. Brady on Miami last year and you are a SB contender. Ryan on NE and NE misses the playoffs.

it really doesn't matter what geno smith did. whatever he did, he did it against the dolphins defense. which has nothing to do with tannehill.

The Jets also basically have the same amount of cap space that Miami, Buf and NE have combined and we have a GM that values draft picks. I love the direction of our team, I just hope Geno shows us he is good enough to win with.

Sorry to ruin the suspense for you, but he's not. Geno is by far the worst Qb I have ever seen play in the NFL, he had a 4 game stretch that produced the worst consecutive QB ratings in the history of league. It would optimistic to think he can develop into a legit back up.

Fantasy stats. So silly.

If the QBR is a fantasy stat then how come by the end of each season they pretty much are a dead on indicator of each QB's season performance? Whens the last time you saw a qb with 89 QB rating average that went 4-12 in wins and losses? Or the qb with a 59 that led their team to 11 wins?

I like how the Jets are being underestimated, slowly but surely we are building a real threat in the AFC. The huge question mark is at QB, if I knew Geno was the answer I'd be incredibly confident but that is TBD as are the QB situations around the division outside of NE.

Now don't get me wrong I hate the Jets, but I agree they are being underestimated. I think as of right now, the Jets have pretty decent D, and some good backs, but QB is a real ??. Geno Smith is horribly inaccurate at times. That may improve though. As for the Bills, they have a D that is looking pretty tough. Although I do think losing Byrd is gonna hurt them badly. Their D-line is on par with Miami's which is saying something. They have good backs, but like Miami and the Jets it all comes down to Qb, and from what I've seen out of the three, I'd rate them Tannehill 1, Manuel 2, and Smith 3. But there isn't a whole lot of seperation between the three. Tannehill IMO has the obvious most upside, but he also has the shakiest o-line, which can quickly derail a promising young career. Good luck Jets! You're gonna need it! This year the AFC east is gonna be brutal!!!

he was awful for a good portion of the season no doubt about it but finished up strong. If you think he's the worst ever you haven't watched a lot of football.

except they aren't.
Matt Ryan 2013, 89.6 rating, 4-12 record

That was tough

Wow you are way off there. RT17 turned the ball over 3 times in that season finale against the Jets. That gave the ball back to the Jets derailing a drive that could have tied the game at 14
it also setup the FG that made it a 2 score game and essentially ended it. So RT17's poor play gave Geno more chances to succeed. Defense didn't play that well but when you can only muster 7 offensive points you can't blame much on the defense. You just aren't going to win many games scoring 7 points.

my statement might have been confusing. I wasn't blaming the dolphins defense for the loss. I was just saying geno played against the dolphins D, just like tannehill played against the jets D. Geno smith had nothing to do with tannehill's performance...is all I was saying.

If you look at the 2 Jet TD drives in that game it was mostly Geno doing the damage.
5-5 for 49 yards on the 1st drive with a key 3rd down run by Geno to keep the drive going. Then they let the RB take it in for the TD.
Then 3-7 for 53 yards on the 2nd drive with a 3rd down passing conversion and another 3rd down run for the the TD by Geno.

After that the Jets had a lead and Rex went pretty conservative knowing we wouldn't score against his defense again

Geno had nothing to do w/ Ryan's performance, he just outplayed him and helped his team win despite playing w/ less talent around him and facing a better D.

don't you mean the gimmick play where the defensive tackle ran the football in for a TD? lol
