AFC East - Patriots clinch a playoff birth

Definitely not the time to be griping after our best offensive game in 2 years. There is almost some truth to the prospect that we could be 11-2. If you look down the schedule game by game and remember the things that took place in them anyway. The only game we lost decisively was @ New Orleans on a Monday Night game where I wouldn't make any team in the NFL a favorite today. Now the only thing is, you have to realize that every team plays some close games throughout any given season. Some teams seem to be in a one possession game at the 2 minute warning nearly every week. We are that team. Of course you can argue that we need to play better in those situations. Fact is, in every game that comes down to the wire, guess what happens? One team makes the play(s) to win the game. The other team does not. You're not always going to make them, that has to be accepted. In these high leverage odds swinging scenarios a lot of the time 1 play, maybe 2 or even 3 will decide the outcome. Anything can happen, meaning...very high variance. So yea, this team could be 11-2, but it isn't. We simply aren't an 11-2 quality team. Those teams put some of these close and late type games away before they become close and late. For instance, Carolina. The way that game went in the 1st half...if we were 11-2 good, that game is out of reach for Carolina, at least to the point of a comeback being highly unlikely. Instead we bumble around at inopportune times and leave a ton of points on the board. Just one example. We've probably come out on the losing end a couple more times than we should have as far as true talent level as a team. We're just a tiny bit of luck or a couple breaks from 9-4. Probably quite a ways from 11-2. The level of play on offense vs Pittsburgh would have beaten Carolina, Buffalo, and Baltimore. Gotta keep improving.

Still if they need to clinch home field advantage throughout, don't expect the refs to give us any breaks.

If this team played like an actual NFL team, didn't choke, could close games, or have Mike Sherman as their OC: we'd be sitting pretty at 11-2...and like the Pats game I mentioned 12-1. We could've and should've competed this year. But Miami is who we thought they were.

Let me asks this question, what happens if that Pittsburgh player doesn't run out of bounds, which he barely did. Would they have brought it back because of the forward lateral on a run play by Ben?

Imagine if we had lost this game...?

I really felt we would make the playoffs this year, when we started out 3-0.

Let's not forget the forget the other pick 6 Troy Polamalu almost had to start the game out.

We needed turnovers to win this game and we almost gave it back to Pittsburgh, if their player doesn't run so tight to the outer side of the field.

Nice points you raise.

Curious as to what NFL and Commish will do now that the blatant bias for the Pats from officiating crews has been brought forward.

I heard they got the 2 seed. If not true then great, but how can the Jets still be in it?

Those little x's and y's next to the teams name indicate who is clinched. All of those playoff pictures and standings in your link are indicative of "if the season ended today". The jets are mathematically alive, the panthers will put that fire out this weekend.

Just think if we beat Baltimore, the only team that could really challenge us for a playoff spot would be the jets.
