Ajayi has been traded to Eagles for a 4th round pick

I understand getting rid of a guy that refuses to do what he is asked and has become a locker room cancer. But the compensation is still my main issue here. Not even a 3rd for who is still considered to be one of the best RBs in the league? Ouch.

OTOH, if the decision was made to trade or cut, a 4th looks pretty good. Again, apparently no other team offered more.

If this trade is because Ajayi isn't doing his job in Gase's system, then trading him makes sense.

If this trade is because the front office don't believe Ajayi has long left in his knees, again this trade makes sense to get something in return for a player while his value is as high as it's likely to ever be.

Now I am personally not happy about seeing Ajayi get traded. I like him as a player and feel he can be a really productive player. But if Gase doesn't want him and feels the offense will be better off without him, then I guess we have to trust Gase knows what he is doing. I think this move could backfire on him, but time will tell.
Great points. Because the OL is the only shinning star of this team.

Yeah, I think that was the case. We really wanted to get rid of him, which is why we ended up giving him away for peanuts. Which tells you the situation between him and Gase was really, really bad.

Ajayi had been "confrontational" with his coaches over the last two weeks or so. First he pouts over getting benched last year and then left home...(rightly so). The guy has never struck me as mature and I have no reason to doubt Gase who said he was not learning the offense. What else do you do as a head coach? Let a disgruntled player with a bad attitude run your locker room? Yell at the bosses?

He steamrolled some teams last year and padded his stats with those 200 yard games (against some struggling defenses) but outside of those 3 games, what did he do? He averaged 49.8 yards a game and had (1) 100 yard game. The Bills, who Ajayi had two of those games against were the 29th ranked rushing defense. He has also appeared on the injury report several times this year with knee issues. For a guy with a degenerative condition, that's not a good sign for the future.

Drake was a 3rd round pick. Ajayi a 5th. Time for the youngin to step up!

Just saw Darlington interviewed on ESPN.........it seems that Ajayi's knee is supposedly more of a concern than anyone has mentioned. The thought being is that he doesn't have a lot of playing time left on it and it is "bone on bone" at this point. Could be true or could be a Dolphins FO member trying to lessen criticism of the trade but it adds another piece to why trade may have happened.

We sucked on offense with Jay, we can certainly suck without him. I am wondering about his legs too, he doesn't seem to be hitting holes as quick this year.

Gase warned us on Friday about this, meaning he warned the players in private for a long time prior to going public. I trust gases decision making on this.

Now the opposing defense can no longer stack 8 men box. They have to defense the whole field. Our playbook can open up. We will become a dynamic offense as we expected before the season began.

Get rid of Ajajyi, what a stroke of genius.

I think what we are overlooking, at this point, is the market for Ajayi was a 4th. I would imagine they contacted every team and nobody was willing to do better. This should tell you plenty. I'm willing to let this play out and see what happens. There is a lot of criticism being thrown about, and much of it is warranted, however, it is very difficult to change a culture. Drastic times call for drastic measures. This very well, may be the short term pain for our long term gain.

Ajayi did look pretty bad in the last game, dancing instead of hitting holes. It was pretty uncharacteristic, though. For the last two years, he's probably earned a larger percentage of his yards on his own (as opposed to from good blocking) than any other RB in the league. I don't think he's easily replaceable. That said, our running game was so ineffective, how much worse can it really get? Given the attitude issues and the knee issue, maybe the Dolphins did the right thing and got something for him while they still could. This was a great deal for the Eagles. Even if they only get 1-2 good years out of Ajayi, he's a big improvement over Blount, and that's already a pretty good offense.

Seriously. they could have gotten that as a comp pick next year.

It would not surprise me if Gase's conversation with Tbaum was "Jay can't get the playbook. I'm going to cut this guy. Get what you can in trade." If no team offered more than a 4th, that's what he was worth.

Does anyone know, the actual 4th round pick that was traded to Miami? Philly has three.
