Akins Placed On IR

this is rediculous. Is this guy ever going to play a down for us.

I wouldn't be shocked it they eventually came up with an injury settlement down the road.

I'm not sure but if a guy is on IR, does his salary still count against the cap this year?

Damn, not the biggest loss but I've been looking forward to see what Chris Akins had to offer us on specials teams and as backup safety for that matter.. But back to back seasons being placed on the IR without even playing a single game, I don't think that he will have a future here in Miami much longer. Does anyone know why we placed him on IR and not simply released him?

I think theres an injury settlement a coming....and deservedly so

he'll be 30 next year, and has not shown the ability to stay healthy....kind of like Eddie Moore

you can't cut a guy when he gets hurt...even if you planned to cut him before that(not saying that's what was going to happen tho).

Because of that, you must place them on IR and continue to pay the contract, although insurance is supposed to pick up some (and sometimes all) of the players contract. Now, depending on the current contract for the guy, how much insurance you have on him and likely some stuff I don't know about :) ...then the team can look at an injury settlement. Sometimes the insurance covers the guys whole salary so there is no sense in working on injury settlement.

that may be the case with Akins.....or heck I don't know, they might be working on a settlement anyway. They've got all year to think about it.

Isn't there a different IR in camp? Going on IR for a hamstring and missing the season doesn't make sense. I thought there was an IR just for roster exemptions for cutdown days.
