Albert & An Expansion Team OL?

Albert > Martin Mckinnie
Thomas/Colledge = Cog/Brenner
Brenner/Garner < Pouncey (when pouncey is back its equal obviously)
Smith >=? Jerry
James >Clabo

Yep, with the exception of the Pouncey injury, we have upgraded 4 positions on the OL. Even if those 4 new starters play bad, its still an upgrade. Sad but true. Factor in we have guys who are scheme fits, a new OL coach and OC, and I think we can be good enough.

still keeping my bet with you. :D

I would much rather lose that bet and see RT with a lot less total pressure. With the Pouncey deal, you can cancel if ya like. Neither one of us could see that coming, and the season has not started.

This year we have an OL that actually fit into a ZBS. Last year we had loafs like Jerry, Incognito, and McKinnie in a ZBS. We didn't have the right players to fit our scheme. I expect our line to improve this year.
It may take some time to get in sync with each other but they are a much better fit and there should be improvement.

Last year, Benton had all the right fits in being in Houston for years but, they were bad. In 2012, we had really bad fits in Cog and Jerry but, blocked better (average) on the run and pass, and this was with Turner.

Go figure.

lol, they're going to be terrible, which is to say, better than last year.

I think from a purely athletic standpoint, we have 3 automatic upgrades (4 with Pouncey). My only concern is the C position. How much of the line calls was Pouncey responsible for? Did Tannehill have to set/adjust protection? If he didn't, can he?

Obviously, the coaches will know and keep this at the forefront of the game-planning, but it seems like an awful lot to learn a new offense, with a new and inexperienced center. I just hope the growing pains can be minimized early enough in the season not to damn it before it can get together.

That said...it's not even pre-season yet...can't wait for PS Game 3.

Assuming that Pouncey is going to be out for a while, we have Albert and what can easily be considered an expansion team's OL in their first or second year. I'm having a problem in seeing how we are going to be improved. Is anyone realistically seeing this differently, and why?

Yes I am. We are a young team with guys with many rookies of last year who are going to make a significant jump this year and there will be 2 or 3 Shelby types this year.

The OL for the Bills last year did pretty good last year with 2 rookies and avg. guys who filled in at G. There ability to run and screen pass helps them. Sherman was the biggest problem for this team last year in a week to week sense. With guys in motion and new system and signal calling....I see big things...unless of course injuries and bad luck continue.

There will be mistakes on OL made, but we will have to wait and see in preseason. We have guys in much better situation this year than last minus Pouncey obviously. There are some unkowns yes but we do have experience on this OL albeit some non-starters.

First off, it can't be worse than last year. Secondly, Lazor will help as he wont be as prehistoric and predictable as Sherman.
Most of all we won 8 games and were in position to win ten with that oline..They don't need to be good. If the unit is average or even below average and the QB takes the next step it should be a better year

bingo!

James is a 1st rd pick, Thomas a 3rd rd pick. Albert was a 1st rd pick, as was Pouncey. They were early picks who were drafted to be starters, not backups. Every team builds that way. Hardly an expansion team Oline.
Pouncey is hurt. Guess what, happens to every team, every yr. Denver lost their starting LT before the season last yr.

I was happy before the injury to Pouncey. Now im just trying to think of ways to replace him. Could trying Billy Turner at Center be an option?

Could be worse, could be great.

A case for how they could be worse:
Albert suffers a season ending injury tomorrow. Billy Turner can't beat out Dallas Thomas, who doesn't look much improved from last year. James looks like Martin did as a rook and we keep hearing "once he puts on some mass he'll be ok." Pouncey continues to be a knucklehead. And the other guard position is a revolving door of players that block about as well as a revolving door.

A case for how they could be great:
Albert beasts. James was underrated -- he seems to get high praise from the people that actually watch his film, the knock against him was he pre-draft grade. Thomas and Turner are both good and they push each other in training camp and from the battle one emerges as really good. Pouncey comes back earlier than expected but we've struck lightning in a bottle and found a very competent center, not wanting to change whats working we slide Pouncey in at RG...and BOOM, one of the best guards in the league.

My prediction:
Average and we give up about 43 sacks or so. So, decent corn.

And with the style of offense we run and 2 of the best d-lines in the league in our division 43 sacks would probably be a pretty good outcome everything considered.
