Albert Wilson’s Role

You can't bitch about our paper thin depth and then flip out when we spend some money to take care of the problem. We have a very good receiving group. We have a nice mixture of talents but they all can play and we have more speed by far than the Mike Wallace days. We have 4 guys that can take the top off the defense.

Here's what I think.. He was signed to be a slot receiver and they thought he'd be better than Amendola and Amendola would be the backup guy. BUT he's not picking things up fast enough therefore he's not better than Amendola so now they're "Bringing him along slowly" It's all Spin. They want him to be a slot guy but he's not better than Amendoa the position so now he's an anywhere we can find a spot for him guy

That goes both ways. If they out produce him come back week 17 and take it like a man.

You’re saying Amendola/Wilson out producing Landry, correct? Assuming so, it won’t happen, but I’d absolutely admit I was wrong. I might be labeled arrogant, but I will admit when I’m wrong.

I’ll take quality over quantity any day of the week.

True number 1 WRs do both. Landry was missing the high upside yardage and TDs of a true #1. But He was durable, and the true WR1s are also durable enough to stay on the field. Some of these guys getting paid in the top 10 aren’t the most durable (Robinson, Watkins, Thomas) Landry at least had that!

Amendola/Wilson aren’t giving you quality or quantity levels of production. Tons of players can show high upside in short sample sizes. Wilson is that guy. Prove it over a season and I’ll eat crow. As predicted, Wilson will need an injury to Amendola to see the field as a 4th or 5th option in the passing game.

I agree with what someone else said, should have used Grant for that gadget role. Saved the money or signed someone better at another position.

Great WR depth. None are going to be a WR1. At least Landry was in the conversation. Parker was drafted to be a true #1, but I gave up on that hope. Stills gonna have a good year, but by the the end of the season, we’ll be saying, if we only had a real dominate WR...

I'm wondering how much of this has to with Isaiah Ford, isn't most of his work coming from the slot? could he possibly be clearly better in the slot than Wilson????
Just glad there is some surprise's in camp....Ford and the fast CB Torry McTyer - Dolphins need this to improve faster than expected
I don't mind that they have to find a new role for Wilson - best players should play I don't care that they have money sitting on the sideline, correct it next year

I like how Gase has promoted players faster and wants to see if they can keep it.....
If Burke was smart he would be looking hard at Fitzpatrick in slot coverage to keep him close to the line of scrimmage, moving him and McCain around could give you another defensive Rinkel.

Landry's not a number 1 receiver, give me a break
Dolphins could again be looking for a receiver 6'3" that runs 4.2 or low 4.3's that a receiving machine - another 1st round pick - would definitely change how teams would play us

Landry was a great slot, talent wise. He was, however, never in any serious conversation of "#1" receiver. He doesn't have anything close to elite speed, nor was he a precise route runner.

That is why he didn't play outside.

I don't understand how ppl don't understand his limitations. He has very good hands, is able to work in small areas, and has the fire and passion. He just doesn't have the tools to carry a team like a true elite receiver.

See, fans already talking about upgrading WRs...

How many #1 WRs are there in the league right now? If you say more than 3, I bet I can list flaws in any beyond the first 3. Many will be durability concerns/missed major time due to injury (Evans, OBJ, Robinson). Another reason will be they never produced for a full year but they’ve shown the upside of a legit WR1 and are still young (Watkins and Cooper). I agree, Landry doesn’t possess those tools, but his production over 4 years puts him in the conversation. Anquan Boldin and Hines Ward come to mind.

IMO, there are about 12 and Landry is in the conversation of the top 12. Someone will say they can think of 20 better WRs and someone will say he deserves to be in the top 5. The majority won’t say either, but you’ll get a lot of people who will say 10-15 is about right.

Give me a legit WR1, Landry and draft a WR in the 3rd rd like Gallup or Kupp. Fill in with some cheap depth or gadget players like Grant. Not this diluted heap we have.

Miami clearly went and got 2 "SLOT"WR for the price of 1.
Wilson is a little more of a slot WR than anticipated though. He can play from just about any position on the field.
Amendola has played a full year in what 20 seasons.
Gase got more than he bargained for with Wilson IMO.

Guess you missed Gase presser,
Wilson going to be a gadget guy and an outside guy spelling Parker and Stills along with Grant.

My guess is Ford looks very impressive in the slot, he will not only make the roster but will see some playing time...will serve as Amendola's backup.

Using 6 receivers not counting backs or tight ends means they keep everyone fresh and running close to 100% all the time, there may not be a true #1 if Parker can't become 1 but there certainly is an array of talent here if used right that could become one of the best core of receivers in the NFL. Can Tannehill keep up?

I liked Landry a lot, less now he is running mouth...not really needed, was his choice to go for the money - had a decent offer here

So we have 5’9” and 5’6” receivers who aren’t capable of playing of playing the slot in this offense. That’s quite the interesting use of resources. Looking forward to seeing how that plays out.

AB is only 5’10 and had zero trouble playing outside. It’s not about the size of a player.

I 100% doubt we never see Wilson in the slot. He will be there too. Maybe we like Stills, or Ford, better there? Lets see how it plays out
