Alex Marvez: Don't count on Luck playing for 'train-wreck' Dolphins

Lets not forget that whoever drafts Luck will be a contender in a short time.

Luck is great, but he will also need help. That is the problem here, can this front office build that winner that Luck will need ? The status quo won't work, but who does Petersen (if we assume he is the next "Parcells" of the team) bring in ? Can Petersen lure a big name without breaking Ross' wallet ? And will overpaying for a Superstar coach force Ross to hold back on some compensation for the players ?

All of these are pertinent questions to ask.

Mark Sanchez needs elite players around him and still won't be succesful. Andrew Luck can take average WRs and make them great like any elite QB can. This is not the same NFL as 10 years ago.

Luck has to look out for himself. He still has a year of eligibility left so he can afford to gamble if he doesn't like who owns the number 1 pick. And to be honest even if he does declare and tries to force a trade, but it doesn't work out; he could sit out a whole year and still be the number 1 pick without playing any football.

I would love to have Luck, but right now I just want the Dolphins to win a game. No one thought Aaron Rodgers was going to become the best QB in football when he fell to 24, so there is no reason to think that Landry Jones or Matt Barkley can't be better than Luck.

I don't think this is true. Once you declare for that years draft, your rights are owned by the team that drafts you until & unless they trade you.

you cannot do it alone. Even an elite QB needs a few playmakers around him. Not as many as a Henne would need but you still need a few.

marvez you are an idiot how could you say such a thing the draft is'nt until april 2012 the dolphins new coach cowher fisher gruden will be in place january 2012 and your telling me luck would'nt want to play for one of those guys ya right!

That's because Dirt isn't elite, he is average. If you want to see the definition of "Elite" look at what happened when you took Manning out of the Colt's line up. That is what an "Elite" QB means to his team, someone who is good for 5 or 6 wins by themselves.

He went to Stanford because he's a brilliant kid who happens to be good at football. Rare breed.
My coworker has a chem. engineering degree from Stanford. He's smart, but far from brilliant, also lacks basic social skills.

This really throws me off as Andrew Luck seems like the type of kid that wouldn't pull some type of stunt like this. I've said it before, "I'm not concerned". However, the concern is starting to build.

I'm not concern at all, this was started by the anti-luck, mediocrity lovers, sparano's pumpin fist army. Luck will play for the team that drafts him.

I went on another board that's devoted to general NFL talk and there is a thread about this right now. "If you were Andrew Luck, which of the 0-1 win teams would you want to draft you?"

And Miami is pretty much the unanimous choice due to having the best roster of the crappy teams, the best actual city to live in, no state income tax, etc.

Marvez has an ax to grind, period.

Why do people keep talking about this as if the Dolphins were deciding whether or not to tank? They will not tank. They will have a top 5 pick, possibly number one. It doesn't matter if he wants to be here or not. If he stays in school we draft someone else. If he comes out we draft him whether or not he wants to be here. All this talk is useless.

Not true, as long as you don't sign a contract with the team that drafts you, you can re enter the draft the following year. Bo Jackson is an example

Respectfully disagree. IMO this talk is beneficial since it's now spreading like shrooms and by this point has surely penetrated Steve Ross's consciousness. The more he's persuaded that it will take a special GM and HC to sidestep the embarrassment of being rejected by the Lucks, the more likely he'll take seriously the staffing of the next regime, including the replacement of Ireland and possible reaching out to Oliver Luck.

After all, what could look more humiliating to all your celebratard owners than having the most coveted college player in the last 20 years telling you to go suck it?

Yup, you think Ross isn't aware of how fed up the fans are right now?

There is a reason he already had Mike Dee come out and tell Salguero and others that his offseason plan is to bring in a franchise QB and star coach.

Exactly right. You know where marvez started? He was at the sun sentinel covering and writing about professional wrestling. He's all about Sensationalism. If you look at most of the objective opinions from outside sources, fans and media outlets Miami is the most desirable spot out of all the contenders to choose him

Marvez is not a source to be taken seriously regarding this matter.
