Alex Marvez: Keep an eye out for James Jones to the Dolphins

He can't catch. Is it because he's with the Packers? If he was with the Browns and dropped that many balls, you guys would not be saying lets get him.

True but Jordy Nelson was having the worst season of his career, including college. He dropped more passes that year than I have ever seen him drop.

Still even if Jones was cut I would think Minnesota would pick him up in a heartbeat given their situation, plus being a division rival, plus running the same offense.

Question is would he rather play in Minnesota or South Beach, especially since the offensive coordinator who gave him every opportunity he could until Jordy Nelson went HAM in the Super Bowl is now down in South Beach.

I believe he's been in the league too long to have to pass through waivers.

I can just about guarantee the Packers have no interest in Matt Moore. There's always some outside shot that Ted Thompson suffered sudden onset Alzheimer's but otherwise I doubt it. They wouldn't even sign him if he were a free agent, let alone trade for him.

On what do you base the statement, "he can't catch"?

Certainly not facts.

That's a good point about going through waivers. I think if you have 4 or 5 years in the league you don't have to go through waivers and he would be free to sign with anyone.

James Jones dropped 6 balls last year. It's not that big a deal. He also produced 11.6 yards per ATTEMPT, and 7 touchdowns.

Is there a wide receiver on roster who is below 34 years of age and has ever caught 7 touchdowns in a year? Mm? Anyone?

Davone Bess has 11 touchdowns in his 4 year career. James Jones caught 14 touchdowns...in 2010 and 2011 alone. He has 24 TDs in his career.

James Jones would be a great pickup for us...but I don't see him being cut. However, I have heard they are indeed looking to get Cobb more involved...and supposedly they are high on some other guys...one in particular being Tori Gorley. Big bodied WR (6'4 and 230 I believe) who is stuck in a numbers game in GB...Philibin would obviously know more about him that other teams. Here is a link about him from last year

I'd trade a late round pick for him in a heartbeat. He would provide the speed element that is missing from our WR crew at the moment. We also wouldn't need to worry about him learning the offense. Makes perfect sense.

I don't think it will happen either. Marvez is just trying to create a story. I think we will pick up a veteran receiver when teams cut down to 53. Trading with GB makes no sense at this time IMHO'

let`s see what, we have before we go trading away picks!

now thats a name to watch if he was cut...

that is a good point...so the next question becomes would someone pay more money...i think given his low salary for this year if he's out on the block someone will pay the price in trade...

If he was cut he'd get picked up on waivers before he gets to us. We'd have to trade for him. I like the idea of trading Moore for him. Good trade for both teams.

as ck said he's been in the league long enough where he doesn't have to go thru waivers...free to the highest bidder...which means miami would be in a bidding war likely...if you trade for him you get him at his current salary which to my understanding is a pretty good bargain...

He only caught 38 passes and with 6 drops that is over 13% dropped. He was 78th in the NFL, there were 77 recievers that dropped the ball at a lesser rate. Yeah Arron Rodgers was throwing him the ball too. Look at Welker, with Brady he is one of the best. When he was on our team nobody knew who he was. Is he better than what we have? Yeah maybe but we have alot of guys that may be really good if they get the chance. You know what Jones is, a decent reciever who drops 13% of the passes thrown to him. Brandon Marshall was next with 14.7%. Less receptions with almost the same drop rate. We just got rid of butter fingers, lets not bring in another one.

Ok thanks. That's good news and I'm sure we'd be at the top of JJ's list since he is familiar with the offense.

I wanted us to sign Jones when he was a free agent last year. I recall bringing it up on this blog and 99% of people was against it because they swore Hartline was better.
