Ok, Im sure someone has posted this already, and if so im sorry, dont jump down my throat for it!

My dad was watching SportsCenter and he came up to me and told me that "San Fran is probably taking some Smith guy from Utah"......my dad knows NOTHING about football, so its not like he could just make this up because the only player he knows if Braylon lol.....he said something about Smith getting a 40+ million dollar contract with them, and they were negoiating with him.

So if its true, no Smith for us.......since Smith "MAY BE" out of the question.......who do you think our choice would be?? Would you take Rodgers??

Comments.......

Trade down to the #5 spot and select Ronnie Brown.

Trade down to #7 and take the BPA. Trade down from #18 to the bottom of the first-round.

no rogers. trade down is a must i think... worst case, we draft edwards

Yes Rodgers. IMO He's the best QB in the draft. We NEED to take him if he's there at #2.

This isn't new news. It seems as if the Niners may be serious. I still think they are bluffing. Smith is looking for a ginormous contract. He wants a contract that rivals Eli Manning's. Personally, I think he isn't worth it. Secondly, if San Fran is going to break the bank on him, they can have him. Behind their god awful line and combined with their terrible receivers, he won't be able to accomplish a damn thing.

Why not drop down to #7, and take a chance on him falling to #7? The Bears and Titans are not going to take him. That pretty much leaves Cleveland and Tampa Bay. We'd probably end up with Rodgers, C. Williams, or Benson at #7, and pick up #18 along the way. Heck, for all we know Brown might still be available at #7. I highly doubt Brown won't be a top five pick, but stranger things have happened before...I also strongly suspect that Rodgers will be available at #7 if the 49ers draft Smith...

V-A-L-U-E. There is absolutely NONE of it if we take Rodgers at #2. That would be more foolish than anything Wanny ever did in the draft.

Trade #2 to Minnesota for #7 and #18, Take Cadillac with #7 and Mark Clayton at #18.

Or make the trade with Minnesota and take Shawne Merriman at #7 and Marcus Spears at #18. That would make my day. :)

Its braylon edwards if SF takes Smith, in fact, I think Edwards has been on are radar since day one. Edwards is a stud and everyone knows it. Just dont tell SF!

Yeah, and if defensive end was the only position on a team, we'd win the friggin Super Bowl.

Come on, are you serious? We'd be with the same exact offense we had last year with no new playmakers.

That would be a horrible draft.

We had the 2nd WORST Offense in the league and a top 10 defense. How the hell are those picks going to help us?:fire:

Not the same positions. Merriman would the SOLB in both the 4-3 and 3-4, and Spears would rotate at DT in the 4-3 and LDE in the 3-4.
We are much older on defense. Holliday is just a band aid. IMO, we need an infusion of youth and talent as much or more on defense.
As for the offense, we can address it in the 2nd and 3rd rounds, and the additions of Linehan and Houck will get more production out of the talent we currently have. We had no offensive coordinator to speak of last year, and Wise decided to retire a year early, based on how the o-line played.

IMO, we can't just trade like that. A deal has to be reached and that takes time. Time is ticking and if Smith is reported more and more to go first, teams see us on the back foot.

Yeah, BELIEVE me, I know Merriman is a hybrid. He's still a pass rusher.

We may be getting older on D, but it's not like everyone is 36.

I don't think we'll find that game-breaking RB in the third round. If that was the case, we might as well just stick with Lamar Gordon.

We need playmakers on offense. Now.
