Exactly what does that have to do with him playing a third string QB yesterday when he had no other option.
Tua, Herbert, Burrow, and many other first round draft picks started as rookies after they were drafted in the first round. Jones was the Patriots first round pick. So him starting was no surprise.
What is it that you don’t understand about why Belichick had to play his third string QB yesterday only after losing his first two QB’s were injured and unable to play?
A lot of rookie QB’s drafted in the first round start in their first year in the NFL in this day and age. In fact it is rare when a highly drafted QB doesn’t start as a rookie unless he happens to be playing behind a proven veteran QB he was drafted to replace in the future.
I have no doubt McDaniel would put in Thompson if Bridgewater is injured against the Jets. It’s not because McDaniel believes Thompson is better than Tua or Bridgewater but with both of them injured
and unable to play, his only option would be to play his third string QB.
That is exactly what Belichick did yesterday. If Jones or Hoyer are available to start next week, one of them will start and Zappe will go back to the bench because he is a backup to both of them.
