Allen Vs Tua

Physically, Allen, Lamar and Mahomes are all time great talents. It’s kind of unfair and unrealistic for every fan base to want to ditch their guy and find freaks of nature like this. I’m guilty of this but we do need to accept reality. Our QB and most QB’s are limited. You have to build a heck of a roster to consistently beat those guys. I don’t know that Grier is the guy to do that. Give Tua silly money and you’re playing for a wild card every year.
Look at san francisco. They are the super bowl equiv of a similar qb / passing system. Purdy is no better than Tua. Are we closer to their level of personnel, with a few moves, or rolling the dice from scratch? I would say the former, caveat being the salary cap is nearly maxed out. This means we will have to draft well to get to that level.

I think j-off-the-doll is right, we need more physicality at the receiver positions. Hill and Waddle are getting dinged up bc of heavy usage and the system leaves them open for big hits from safeties coming downhill (think our bread and butter, mini post / 15-yard slant ). And lets add a 3rd option that reliably gets open against man.

On D, Fangio is a conundrum. His system has genius aspects but some of his game planning and play calling has been very questionable. We got a bit lucky to give up 14 to BUF offense, they were moving the ball with ease. Personnel wise we need an X replacement.

Pray for -average- injury luck and I think we can compete at that next level

How about we see what Tua actually does in the playoffs first?

I mean, we finally get to see what he does.

No game this season is as big or primetime as Saturday.

Tua could go on a tear and toss 12 TDS leading Miami to the SB.

He could put up a dud.

Let's atleast wait and see what he does. Then we can draw conclusions.

I would if it were on TV, LOL. :)

Allen brings an energy to his team like Marino did. You expected them to pull the game out. Tua doesn't bring that energy. I expected him to throw and INT and he did. He may be in the Pro Bowl but he'll never be in the HOF.
That's the biggest difference -- leadership. Allen has stature and command and leads his team. Tua is a diminutive player who's pampered by his head coach instead of being held accountable as a leader. In fact the dynamic between McDaniel and Tua is the root of the issue with this team. The people in the two strongest leadership positions on a football team can't be "chummy" the way they are. That relationship should have the appropriate distance and respect and accountability. McDaniel shouldn't have to shine Tua's shoes to get him to lead and play well.

Unfortunately, the NFL is a place in which building around a QB only makes sense financially if that guy is a freak.

The NFL's success stories have involved 2nd-tier guys like J-Goff, C-Wentz, A-Smith, J-Garoppolo and even R-Wilson all being jettisoned after their initial rookie/cheap deals were over.

Those other QBs all put up the same type of 100+ passer ratings our guy is doing now--and got much further in the Playoffs.

If it's okay to replace those guys, there's no justification for holding too tightly onto Tua other than the simple fact that fans are incredibly biased towards their own guy.

It's favoritism pure and simple.

I'm with you.

I think the whole "confidence" thing should've been kept in house. Tua will be haunted forever because that was made public. Truthfully, I doubt he'll ever get over it. Every time he makes a mistake it'll be a complete identity crisis and the media will trot out the narrative again that Tua isn't a leader. You can't expose your personal side like that in the media. It's not productive and he should know that from his time at Bama.

More to the point, if a guy doesn't feel he can live up the demands of the NFL...maybe it's because he can't? There's this insistent belief that Tua has the ability but just doesn't believe in himself. Maybe the fact he's super limited reflects in a state of self-awareness. Attempting to convince Tua that he's great has only led to a Tua that looks laid back but then questions himself all the more when he comes up short.

I feel bad for him. He throws an accurate ball but he's nobody's savior. That was too much hype from the beginning. It didn't help him. Miami fans have to realize that. If you draft Dan Marino, fine, crown him. But if not, be realistic with the guy.
