An Excellent Article that Gives Insight Into Tanneyhills Troubles and D's Problems

Anyone see the irony in that besides me?

Well 1) That looks to be a designed quick slant to Hartline. 2) That's Lamar Miller. 3) Hartline drops the ball. That simple. 4) Look at the LB flying in. If Ryan looks to his right to make a read and possibly throw it to Miller he is getting lit up and then we complain that he took a sack.

IMO Tannehill had time to throw the ball to miller , even with the pressure ,he just didnt make the 2nd look .

They just don't understand the qbs keys what he's reading etc when it comes to coverage and if he sees certain things he lets fly

That was 3rd and 5 as I recall...we punted but that's not on the qb at all

You are correct. That was the correct read. Its also awareness thats an issue. You are really going to throw to Hartline on a slant that requires him to be physical and use his hands? Whats going on with that?

Tannenhill usually always makes the right read and decision. Its just his awareness is terrible at this point. Hes so close to putting it all together but right now its all just not clicking.

Agree with this analysis. Tanneyhill doesn't go through his progressions. It seems like he's made up his mind before the snap where he's going to go with the ball rather than reading the defense. This may be a bad habit that he picked up last year when he had no time to throw. He needs to clear the slate, trust the protection, and go through his progressions. Recall how he did that in the Pittsburg and Atlanta games last year. The example play in the article where he throws to Hartline instead of to a wide open Lamar Miller is crystal clear. I think this also happened on several more plays (one where Charles Clay was wide open in the end zone and one where Daniel Thomas would have had a huge gain but TH was waiting for Wallace to come open and he got sacked). The bright side is that these are fixable things and we know he can do it because he did it last year. I just hope the 58 sacks last year don't ruin him ala David Carr in Houston.

****And here's some evidence of Tannehill with much better Pocket awareness and going through his progressions. He has definitely regressed. Maybe that's because he's still learning the offense or maybe he got hit so much last year. Whatever the reason, he can do it.

I think we all know what the problem with the defense is, Tannehill makes 3 incomplete passes, we punt, then the defense goes back out without any rest. The defense gets wore out, THe lack of production by the offense, that is run by...
TANNEHILL! You want to stop the dolphins offense? Just bunch everybody up close, within 10 yards of the offense, and have your defensive linemen hold up their hands. Tannehill throws complete 1 out of every nine pass attemps of 15 yards or more.

might as well play tripp and mccain

IMO McCain SHOULD have played BOTH the last 2 games he is fast as lighting and strong as hell , just as JT he seen him at pratice and right away was asking WHO THIS PLAYER WAS , and after he made the punt block and the sack on Brady ,that alone should have gotten him atleast a few plays in each game ,IF he wasnt hurt in either of the last 2 games he should have been in there ,he was in the backfield as quick as a cat , BUT havent heard a ting since the Pats Game . IMO McCain is going to be a SPECIAL Player for us , just wait and see .

Ryan Tanneyhill, when he was a baby, sittin' on his mommy's knee, picked up a football in in his his little right hand'n said, 'Hartline'll be the death of me me me, Hartline'll be the death of me, Hartline'll be the death of me me meeeeeeeeeee'

I'm gonna go out in this game and I'm gonna throw that slant on down. I'm gonna throw that slant on down down down, gonna throw that slant on down down down...

Ryan Tanneyhill said to the Chiefs, 'Bring Sean Smith on down, gonna beat Sean Smith. Yes I'll beat Sean Smith on down down down...'

Fair article. Tannehill has been the same for 5 seasons. The stats may say he's markedly worse but he's still the same guy. Always the benefit of a doubt. I think he deserves to play a full season even if I hope Hickey is already plotting to replace him.

I appreciated the scrutiny on Jenkins. I mentioned in a thread yesterday that he was receiving credit for making tackles on plays he had actually butchered. That swing pass over the middle is among the ones I was referring to. Hard to believe that Pro Football Focus graded him so highly.

On that final play, watch not only Jenkins but Earl Mitchell. That's the play I described him running a wheel route. He drops back and starts running to his right. Kansas City runs the play smack to the area Mitchell vacated and nullifies him easily once he stops and tries to turn back. We may have been running some type of absurd scheme on that play but it's the type of thing Mitchell does all the time. He's a guesser, taking off in seemingly random directions. He gets his name called on tackles but the announcers ignore all the mistakes he makes, leaving huge gaps.

BTW, Soliai has been terrific in Atlanta. I read one Falcons fan on footballsfuture.com post that nobody has been able to block Soliai at all and one of the reasons is that the blocker is pushed three yards deep into his own backfield before he recovers enough to start to attempt the block.

Chad henne has a better qb rating then tannehill.....
I understand. It's ok to use QB rating to prove that Tannehill sucks but in his rookie season, when Tannehill's QB rating was identical with the QB rating of Andrew Luck, it wasn't ok to use it as measuring stick.

If you trust the QB rating then Josh McCown was the 3rd best QB in 2013. Just sayin.

Hes been singing that tune all week I'm not sure he has anything else to back his stance. Fact is after 3 games anybody can have a higher passer rating then anybody. Such a same sample size. Talk to me after 8 games that will tell a better story

a double move against inside blitz with a slanted line leaving a free edge rusher olb....i've heard it all now

catch the damn ball brian hartline you freaking scrub

I understand on the quick slants that they have to be thrown immediately, and if he sees what he's looking for, he throws it before the play can further develop.

But given how little success we're having on the slants and the fact that on at least two plays in that game where he did throw them, he had another guy open... it's definitely frustrating.

The OC needs to be sending in plays that have a higher success rate or bigger reward. This low success, low reward stuff is frustrating and a large part of the stalled drives.
