Agree with this analysis. Tanneyhill doesn't go through his progressions. It seems like he's made up his mind before the snap where he's going to go with the ball rather than reading the defense. This may be a bad habit that he picked up last year when he had no time to throw. He needs to clear the slate, trust the protection, and go through his progressions. Recall how he did that in the Pittsburg and Atlanta games last year. The example play in the article where he throws to Hartline instead of to a wide open Lamar Miller is crystal clear. I think this also happened on several more plays (one where Charles Clay was wide open in the end zone and one where Daniel Thomas would have had a huge gain but TH was waiting for Wallace to come open and he got sacked). The bright side is that these are fixable things and we know he can do it because he did it last year. I just hope the 58 sacks last year don't ruin him ala David Carr in Houston.

****And here's some evidence of Tannehill with much better Pocket awareness and going through his progressions. He has definitely regressed. Maybe that's because he's still learning the offense or maybe he got hit so much last year. Whatever the reason, he can do it.

my take is he use to go through his progressions last year and the sacks already have taken their toll on him. thats why people are saying he has no faith in this line, which hasnt done too shabby

Agreed. Bill Lazor should show him the video of his play against Atlanta, Pittsburg, and Carolina when he went through progressions well.

Seemed pretty fair to me. Tannehill has made mistakes and those mistakes are magnified by mistakes made by others. They seem to be taking turns.

The return of the batted balls is a little concerning but not too much. The up the middle pressure has been partially responsible. Also, the OL should be crushing any of the rushers that jump for the ball. I've read many times that the OL must hit anyone who jumps at the line to dissuade them from continuing to do it. Neither Satele or Thomas touches the KC lineman.

I also think the author misses the point on the discussion of the missed pass to Miller. IMO, either the offense doesn't alter its progressions based on the defensive alignment or Tannehill is misreading the defense pre-snap. As the author suggests, Tannehill will not have time to go to Miller as a second or third read. He has an unblocked rusher. But, that rusher was on the LOS before the snap. If Tannehill sees him, and Miller is the first read, it is an easy completion. I just don't know if that is part of the offense or not.

I also agree with the comments about Jenkins. He is getting talked up by some, but I think he is still a big liability. It will be interesting to see how he does when Misi is back.

Just gotta wonder if they are teaching this on film day. If not, its going to be a long season.

Wow. Knowshon Moreno (#28) is outrageously open for a huge gain, and Tannehill just doesn't see it.

Edit: My mistake. That's Lamar Miller (#26).

thats Miller #26, Knowshon is hurt. Hartline was the first read he knew the blitz was coming

Well 1) That looks to be a designed quick slant to Hartline. 2) That's Lamar Miller. 3) Hartline drops the ball. That simple. 4) Look at the LB flying in. If Ryan looks to his right to make a read and possibly throw it to Miller he is getting lit up and then we complain that he took a sack.

Yes, thanks, I edited my post.

Hartline was the first read he knew the blitz was coming

Elite QBs see who blitzes, and recognize the gaps that will thus exist in the coverage.

Given the blitz from the right side, there simply aren't enough defenders on that side of the field to cover the 3 Miami receivers.

Elite QBs - Marino, Brady, Peyton - all do that, and punish teams for blitzing.

The blitz was on in case you missed that too. No time to check down to Miller.

The thing is...shouldn't Miller have blocked the guy? Miller clearly thinks he's a hot read and Tannehill is oblivious to it. Somebody must have ****ed up.
