Andre Reed Before Mark Clayton?

If Art Monk doesn't go in before Reed, Irvin, and whoever else. The voters need to be shot.

Art Monk is never getting in. At least not until His names goes before the "retirement community"

Doesn't mean I don't think he should, but I heard Peter King on the radio who gave his reasons why he will never vote for Monk. The ******* thinks Monk doesn't deserve it....

I don't know if anyone noticed, but Andre Reed was included on a list of players that are likely going to be admitted next season into the Hall of Fame.

My question is do you think Reed is more worthy that Mark Clayton? I realize I'm a bit of a Dolphin homer, but without even looking at the stats, I'm a believer that Clayton deserves it as much as Reed.
The thing that will hurt Clayton is the samething that people knock Marino for. Super Bowls.

Not that Reed won any, but he got to four and for some reason people think SB trips is a individual accomplishment.

The rest of the list included:
REGGIE WHITE
TROY AIKMAN
ANDRE REED
WARREN MOON

and one more, which I can't recall...

Clayton was in a passing offense, Reed wasn't. Difficult to compare. Can't believe I'm siding with Reed. Actually, I think Reed should only be borderline allowed in, he was good but not HOF good. WIth same logic, neither of them belong in the HOF.

The Red Gun wasn't a passing offense?

Clayton was a great player, but considering Art Monk, Michael Irvin...

I don't think you'll ever see these two make it in. Monk has enemies among the voters, and the people who want to see him in are apparently holding Irvin up until Monk makes it.

Ok I did some checking and took their three best years.......

Andre Reed
88 Catches 1312 Yards 14.9 YPC 9 TD's
81 Catches 1113 Yards 13.7 YPC 10 TD's
66 Catches 1036 Yards 15.7 YPC 6 TD's

Mark Clayton
73 Catches 1389 Yards 19.0 YPC 18 TD's(Absolutely rediculous year)
86 Catches 1129 Yards 13.1 YPC 14 TD's
66 Catches 1053 Yards 15.0 YPC 12 TD's

Average for these three best years......
Andre Reed
78 Catches 1154 Yards 14.8 YPC 8 TD's

Mark Clayton
75 Catches 1190 Yards 15.7 YPC 15 TD's

Reed had only 4 seasons of more than 1000 yards recieving in 16 years, while Clayton had 5 in 10. Clayton also broke the 10 TD barrier 4 times to Reeds 1.(Who only reached 9 TD's one other time)
And the argument about the end of Reeds career can be used for the first and last year of Claytons career. Taking away Claytons rookie and final year and I'll take away the two worst years for Reed.

Taking away the two worst years.....
Reeds Career Average Would Be.....
66 Catches 913 Years 13.8 YPC 6 TD's

Claytons Career Average Would Be....
60 Catches 947 Yards 15.8 YPC 9 Td's

Had Clayton played a few more years, this may be an easy decision. Yes we were a pass first team, but we also had a guy on the other side of Clayton that was pretty good.

It becomes one if you count the screen pass. The bills used the screen pass instead of what other teams would use a running down. BUt my point was that we passed because we had no running game. The bills also effectively ran the ball, Thurman = HOF, Miami RB's = diddly squat.

Also if you took Claytons career average added 5 years to his stats to equal Reeds 16 years he would have.....

847 Catches 13054 yards 15.4 YPC and 122 TD's

Your going to kick yourself, especially in light of this thread. Thurman Thomas was the other guy. Reed is the only maybe on this list IMHO.

wow thats altta TD's and Yards, what about IRving Fryar HOFer?

reed probably will get in before clayton because reed didnt play in a pass happy offense and reed also had amazing performances in the postseason as well. I think art monk should get in before any of the eligible recievers especially micheal irvin.
