Anthony Johnson takes bumpy path to Dolphins

Clay made some big plays. However, an explosive player is one that isn't easily single-covered. One who consistently breaks open games if left alone in coverage.

Plenty of times where Clay was single covered without threatening a D.

We need to avoid the tendency to puff up players just because they are Phins.

Clay did a very good job overall last year although he somewhat disappeared at the most important time of our season.
Im not convinced he is a top 100 NFL player at all, but Clay does deserve some puffing up after the season he had. Now the question is can he do it again.

Explosive plays are easier to come by when you are making the defense think. I agree that we lack the Desean Jackson-type, but I expect us to have a few more chunk plays come out of the system shift. Lamar Miller in space, Wallace on crosses, etc.

Funny how this thread got hijacked from being an update on Anthony Johnson (an undrafted rookie), and was turned into an attack on the teams quality.

It's nice to hear Johnson is doing well and hopefully Hickey stole him.....no matter what happens happens he is no gamble and has nothing to do with where the hijacking of this thread went.

Obviously its too early to make any final assessments. Amatuers equate track speed to football ability and football speed and some the greatest receivers in history have proven it.

Landry when healthy ran in the 4.5's which is faster than Jerry Rice, Anquan Boldin or Mark Clayton (who was a greater Dolphin receiver than his speedy teammate Duper).

Bluefin - The D-line is already pretty strong. I don't follow college football too closely, how good is Johnson? Coming into the room with good role models like Wake and Odrick around him and a proven successful position coach, we may have got lucky.

he was a very average college player that was considered to be a disappointment because he was highly rated coming out of high school. He played like a late draft pick on the field.
Im always intrigued by these guys that underachieve in college but more often then not their lack of production in college translates to lack of production at next level.
Im hoping he is a steal but hard to keep many more DL.

He was def one of the too 2-3 DTs coming out of high school. I have a lot of hope for the kid, hopefully he takes his technique seriously, and going undrafted knocks some sense into him.

I do wonder what made him and his agent pick Mia over other teams. I'd assume a lot of teams would of been happy to have him.

All depends on who called and we do run a 4-3 so maybe a chance for a young DT to develop. I like the idea of it being him.

I look at it this way....Number one he is no gamble as he was undrafted.

Number two he was the number one DT prospect in the nation coming out of high school, and only started 16 games at LSU and didn't start full time until his junior season, forgoing his senior season....he did post 7 sacks in a limited amount of time.

Number three....some players take time to mature and are late bloomers....maybe this kid is one of those guys that just wasn't ready or mature enough in college to fully bloom and the Dolphins will strike gold.
