Any new news on Corey Simon's situation?

Let's look at it this way....

Saban has been complaining about the lack of depth on defense, he has not been happy with the way the 2nd string DL has played, and one of the problems is that we're rotating guys like Vickerson / Wright at DT....

Did any of you see how quickly the Bucs scored on us during the first series against our 2nd string???....They plowed right through us like a hot knife through butter. It was a horrible defensive effort bythe 2nd string, and if that's what we have to look forward to this year when the starters are taking a breather, we're in deep doo doo....

Adding Simon would allow us to have more depth at that position, and trust me we need it big time. We can't expect to stop anyone with the DL depth we have behind the starters. Add Simon, and that all changes....

PHINZ RULE!!!!

We have no one on the roster right now that is a long term sure shot solution to our DT issues. ALl of the veterans can and might be gone next year. Write and VIckerson are crap shoots.

Read on Profootball Talk that Simon might have a bum shoulder which was one reason he was released since it was effecting his production which made is salary something the Eagles didn't want to pay. Found that interesting because I have heard nothing on this before today. Does he have a history of being dinged up all the time?

We'll be a stepping stone for him to get a big contract with another team. We have one of those every year. I don't think we've had it yet this season. I just have a feeling.

Count me in having that same feeling.

He'll give the "ALL SIGNS POINTING TO MIAMI" signal and then at the 11th hour he'll sign the contract with the team you least expected him to sign with.

I think they are referring to an old injury he had in college.

Indeed, the Eagles gave Simon a very thorough exam before selecting him in round one of the 2000 draft. And even though he has missed only two games in five NFL seasons, the lingering concerns could limit his ultimate value on the free-agent market.

I haven't watched him on a week by week basis and don't know how well he'd fit into the Fins' system, but that's basically BS about his not making plays. His numbers are pretty comparable to the DTs who many consider the best in the game: Stroud, Jenkins, Seymour (sometimes DE), Haynesworth, etc. Simon has a few less tackles but more impact plays (sacks, stuffs, etc.) than many of these guys. Stats don't necessarily tell you much about DTs -- Zgonina's numbers last year were better than any of these guys and you can't say that we were real strong at DT last year.

I don't think Simon was anywhere near camp so I doubt anyone has any word on his shoulder currently. I would be more concerned about the size of his gut though.

Bills NOT interested-

"Count the Buffalo Bills out of the Corey Simon sweepstakes.
President and General Manager Tom Donahoe said Tuesday the Bills have no interest in Simon, the Pro Bowl defensive tackle who became an unrestricted free agent when the Philadelphia Eagles rescinded their franchise tag over the weekend. He refused to sign a one-year, $5.134 million qualifying offer.

According to some published reports, the Bills were one of several teams to contact Simon's agent, Roosevelt Barnes, on Monday. It also was reported earlier in training camp that the Bills were considering a trade for Simon. Donahoe said the reports were false.

"Despite all the rumors, we have never been a player in the whole Corey Simon issue," Donahoe said. "
