Vernon started that game right? Why is it he had no stats, but in 10 plays or so for Dion Jordan he had a sack. I know Vernon went up against a good left tackle but so did jordan with a bad shoulder. Does that mean Jordan is just that good?

Vernon got a couple of pressures that I saw. He was going up against Joe Thomas.

Also, Jordan's sack came when Weeden left the pocket and basically ran right into him. Joe Thomas is really, really good in pass protection.

Actually, it was a very good test for Olivier Vernon, up against a top class OT in Joe Thomas. Part of his professional development against the very best. It won't always be easy, OV probably learned more from the struggles in that game than the weeks in practice against Jonathan Martin.

Vernon did just fine. Joe, IMO is the best in the NFL. My biggest concern is Jordan favoring his bad shoulder. I wonder if we should just shelf him for a few weeks.

Vernon was getting held a lot in that game. He had more than a few good moments. He gave Joe Thomas a damn good day's work. It may not show up on the stat sheet, but OV played a hell of a game, considering he went up against the Best LT in all of Football.

Very impressed with OV's power rush - walked Joe Thomas back a couple of times, but he needs work on running the arc.

Olivier Vernon is not a very good pass rusher. This should not really be news but for whatever reason a lot of people take a blind eye to what he's actually showing on the football field.

He's good for what he is. He's pretty athletic, and since his days at Miami he's had very powerful hands that allow him to play like a player bigger than his frame would suggest. This is why he's good for base downs, until Dion Jordan is ready to assume the 3-down role for which he was drafted.

But let's not pretend Olivier has a bright future in Miami. That fate was sealed the moment they drafted Dion Jordan all the way up at #3 overall. And if there was any ambiguity, they took that ambiguity away a few days ago by giving Koa Misi a four year contract extension.

Dion jordan didnt get a sack. It was taken away because he facemasked weeden when he took him down. And on that play jordan didnt beat thomad to get there the whole dline got into.thr backfield and gludhef weeden right into jordan

That's not correct. Dion Jordan is officially credited with the sack. A facemask is a personal foul penalty. The penalty yardage is tacked onto the end of the play. It is not a dead ball foul. It does not nullify the play result.

You're right, Jordan shouldn't be credited with that sack. In addition to getting the facemask, he was being thoroughly blocked by Joe Thomas on the play and Weeden ran right into him. But the fact of the matter is, he gets credit for it.

I always thiught a penatly nullified the sack if it was a penatly by the sacker. Nfl.com didnt credit him with a sack. And during the game the announcers said he got his first sack but then after they saw the penalty they said welp it looks like he will have to wait for his furst nfl sack becayse of thr facemask

Edit: looks like espn.com credited him with a sack tho

That's the official NFL gamebook. You'll notice Dion Jordan had 1 sack for a loss of 10 yards.

How does Vernon fare when standing up?

I guess that's the logical evolution of his role.

i just cant buy that Oliver Vernon isnt a good pass rusher , he done very good in preseason ,he had alot of pressure on his side , not sure what the sack count was for OV but imo he has what it takes to play the poss he is playing , and as Philbin , Ireland have stressed that you can never have enough pass rushers , i just dont think Ireland moved up to pick Jordan to replace Vernon , i think as it was stressed , and we have depth at the poss , more or less that we dont wear down as the game gose on we will still be fresh , but just like Wallace will get his at WR , Oliver Vernon will get his .he is a much improved player , and it will show soon enough , he wont be going against the best LT in football every week like he did against the browns Joe Thomas .. Vernon will get his .
