Anyone else mad we didn"t even attempt to go for a td?

I would have liked to see at least one read option rollout run pass option, if nothings there slide down and keep the clock running but, we won so...

It never seems to amaze me that when we pass you want run, when we run you wanted a pass. If anything we should be talking why didn't they go for the FG on 4th and 2nd with like 20ish seconds left.

Conservative crap and settling for FGs usually gets you beat. Sherman is flat out dumb for playing it so damn safe.

Philbin said in his press conference he elected to run all 3 times to run the clock and make them burn timeouts.

No but I did want to go for it on Stugis's 58 yard attempt. Or at least a little pooch punt. Sturgis hasn't been money. Don't set him up for failure.

His miss was from 51 or 52 yds I thought.

I'm not upset. This defense blows big time when it comes to actually winning the game, and you saw how hard they tried to blow it when the Steelers had barely a minute. I don't like our chances if we had given them a minute and a half. Factors you have to consider are the snow and being on the road, if this is sunny Miami we may be talking different.

No, because we won. If we lost this might be a legit conversation. We won.

Terrible reasoning. The results of one instance aren't important when determining the long term value of a decision.

It was 52, I believe. It was still a basically impossible kick. I agree that the kicker was set up for failure there. I don't think any kicker in the NFL makes that kick more than 1 out of 10 tries. That is literally the worst set of goalposts in the NFL to attempt to kick into. Steelers kickers lost their jobs over those goalposts before Cowher and Tomlin and everyone else realized that it's stupid to kick into that swirling vortex of wind.

So the defense hasn't had trouble closing out games or blowing 4th quarter leads??

If you noticed, the dolphins seemed to have game planned for "playing it conservative" where in other games we haven't . Whatever coaches saw in the game planning combined with the weather probably led them to believe that protecting the win was a better call than going for the kill. Well it worked so while no one can say if all the decisions tonight were perfect they seemed to work out for us in the long run.

Here are the conservative decisions I saw and how they worked out:

1)not calling the time out and being content with the 3 point lead and the ball
Result: we end up scoring again before the Steelers and take a 10 point lead in the 3rd quarter
Was it a good call? I would argue yes, We were up 3 and we were getting the ball back. If we had called the timeout who knows if we would have still blocked the punt. And we ended up scoring after the half before the Steelers.

2)Running the ball for all four downs at the end of the game.
Result:FG and steelers get the ball back with a little over a minute and no TO and have to score a TD
Was it a good call? I would also say yes. Our run game had been showing promise and I think they thought they could get a 1st down or TD, but imagine we throw one pass in there and dont get a TD. now the steelers get the ball back with 1 TO and around 2 minutes left on the clock. whole new ball game. I was yelling at the tv don't get cute run it all 3 downs and leave it to our D to make the probable stop.

3) Not going for the first down on the 4th down play and opting to kick the long FG
Result: Miss FG
Was it a good call: Probably not. Sturgis has not been money and the coaches should have researched kick probablitys in this stadium and in this weather. Not to mention the fact that sturgis did not hit one kickoff past the goal line this game. Coaches should have seen that sturgis was not getting any distance in these weather conditions. We were actually lucky they did not get a better run back on this.

Overall
I would argue 2 of the 3 places where the coaches decided to go conservative were good calls. With the bad call being going with a streaky kicker for an improbable long field goal.

You show me a pic of a game where the defense blew a 17-3 lead? Forgive me if I'm not impressed by your logic.

Logic would side with a photo of our defense sealing the win in a very impressive fashion on MNF over the division leading 9-4 Bengals.

The only thing I didn't like was the lack of creativity in the running calls, a reversible or something they were not expecting would have been a TD. Running and eating the clock was smart but it was too conservative.

If you are talking about a decision to take a long FG or punt it, since the distance is too great for a first, then it may have made sense to try the risky FG. But without even knowing the history of FG's in that stadium, I was cursing the staff for sending out the kicker. The chances of picking up a 4th and 2 have to be way higher than trying a 52 yarder anywhere in the snow and wind.
