FIRST OFF, the brady machine had started BEFORE we lost all those db's.
SECOND, people are looking at the WRONG area. THE RUN D is what is the real issue is and achillies heal of the team.
we are not good against the run. we have had a couple MOMENTS, but over all, this team has not been good againt the run.
and this is why i am scared of this buffalo game. they DO have a good run game and have the speed and ability to gash teams big. throw in the bad weather coupled with miamis weakness against the run and i see dark clouds ahead. the bills secondary is pesky and opportunistic and LEODIS McKELVIN is one of the better and most under rated cb's in the nfl and has a knack for smothering guys like brandon marshall and mike wallace. shutting off big, fast wr's is his calling card.
I SEE A TEAM actually starting to emerge in miami. we still have SEVERAL weaknesses, lb, o-line, safety [why clemons is still here i have no idea]. our DB'S, especially at corner have absolutely shown signs of coyles knack for coaching up under achieving players, but, teams are still getting over on us throwing the ball. the BIG, TALL wr's still give us fits and the TE gash still haunts us.
we have played WAY, WAY over our heads and that is ALWAYS a sign of good coaching. i dont see us beating buffalo, but, even if we finish 9-7 and dont make the playoffs, JOE PHILBIN should be COACH OF THE YEAR!! many have ANDY REID penciled in, but as some have said in the last couple days on tv and radio, ried had a LOT of talent on that team, they just needed a direction and a REAL system in place.
the dolphins will be setting the team record for sacks this year. the running game almost non existent for most of the season. INCOGNITO scandal. no one from our draft making any REAL impact. almost like we didnt even have a draft [thanks ireland!], etc.... . and we are a HAIR from being in the playoffs with the team coming together and playing as a team, tanny finally realizing he has to throw to mike wallace, using what most feel was a death sentance for the team with martin gate and the team using it as a call to arms and not folding. beating QUALITY teams n o one thought we could beat.
THAT is why i, and some of the sports writer and commentators are picking JOE PHILBIN over andy ried. no homerism on my part at all picking joe because he has held this team well above water facing what most felt were insurmountable odds and having his team on the cusp of the playoffs. watching the team start to develope and gell in front of our eyes when all of us expected the opposite to happen.
THAT is coach of the year material.
i think buffalo will be our waterloo for the playoff hopes, but, even if we get in were probably one and done. yes, anything can happen but really, we are going to beat the chiefs or broncos in their house? we do not have the horses. denver has ALL the tools to beat our secondary and the chiefs run so well they may not have to throw one pass considering we are not good against the run. both teams can run or pass and are well balanced across the board, offense and defense. we are a nice story and the future is FINALLY bright [only if ireland is gone. can you imagine if we would have had a productive draft were the players actually got on the field?] but back in reality land, we are not the caliber of the broncos or chiefs. and i dont know what round 3 against the pats would look like. that team has a way of correcting its ill's.
we are probably NOT what some think we are right now, we have some REAL weaknesses and have issues on both side of the ball, BUT, we FINALLY see a team happening. we finally have wr's getting into he endzone and making huge plays down field. mike wallace is almost 99% open on his go routes. he is a pro bowl wr in ever way and mathews is a budding star and hartline is one of the top 5 posession wr's in the nfl. throw in a couple more real o-linemen and and a BIG TIME rb and this offense is spooky!! charles clay has become a real deal down the field threat at TE and we still have dustin keller in the wings!!
playoff spot or not, the second half of the season has been fun and a TEAM is finally surfacing. the players have bought in. we can go into this offseason with real hope and real non homeristic expectations of winning and if we have someone else running the draft next year [mike mayock is my hope] other than ireland, this offseason will be lots of fun!!!
NOTE: carl peterson is 90% going to be our new gm. but, MAYOCK has been tossed around by some of the fans and he is an actual former nfl players and NO ONE has their finger on the pulse of the young draftable college players like mayock. he is an obvious draft nick and he he follows college ball and knows the players from the years end draftable players as welll as the juniors and down to softmores and that is what we need, someone who has a FIRM GRIP and knowledge of the draft and the current era of collegiate players.
PETERSON says he is till up on current nfl football, but, i doubt he is even in the ballpark as mayock with the draft and college players. i would LOVE mike mayock as our GM/DRAFT GURU.
