Anyone for a CB at #19?

Absolutely if the value is greater than the value we could get at o-line or linebacker. Our CB situation looks grim. Grimes is great but Finnegan was bad last year. Relying on him is a bad idea and could blow up in our faces. Taylor looked really bad but he does have the excuse that he was hurt. Even still, he is just a 2nd rounder in his second year and pretty much an unknown quantity. Will Davis didn't show much either. Even if someone surprises and does well, another corner wouldn't be a bad idea.

If Lewan and Shazier are off the board and Fuller is available, he would be my choice of pick.

If Dennard drops in our lap, I think we'd be crazy not to take him at #19.

This draft is a really interesting one because there's no consensus on what's going to happen. I'm reading articles predicting a run on O-linemen, I'm reading other articles saying they'll be a run on D-backs. The mocks are about as divergent as I've ever seen. Next Thursday night might be a wild ride.

There is no CB that will be available at #19 that could start for our team in 2014, so I'd veto spending our 1st overall pick on a CB.

To me Davis is the most intriguing guy of our unknowns, when he looked good he looked real good but he also looked pretty bad at times. Taylor could be solid but I predict if Davis gets coached up and becomes more consistent he can be special.

When did Davis look good other than training camp?

Aside from QB, RB, and FB I don't think there is a position you can say definitely no to drafting in the first round.

Playmakers are always welcome. It will be kinda admitting that our picks in Taylor and Davis were for naught tho. I'd like to get a STARTER on the field from the draft at #19. TE, OG, OT, LB. I seems with Cortland and Brent, a newbie will not be starting.

miami plays a lot of off coverages fuller gets beat in off man...good in zone and press...

Nope. Need to develop the young guys. Both have potential.

after what ireland did with earl thomas i couldnt live through losing another sure fire pro bowl menacing enforcer.

I must ask a question. I am not a professional draft guru or do I know all the inside info many of you seem to know. So please excuse me if this is a dumb question.

Did or how could Ireland know that Earl Thomas was going to be a better player than the one he drafted?
Was Thomas a highly rated player that everyone knew was going to be a beast and only Ireland was dumb enough not to see it? That would mean 30 other teams were just as stupid as we were. And that would also make the rest of the Dolphins front office dumb as **** too.
If Thomas was known as a sure fire can't miss player, then the whole organization in Miami is is clueless and why would they be any smarter know? I mean Hickey is the GM, but does not Philbin have some responsibility for drafting a particular player?

I guess my condensed question is how would have anyone known how good Earl Thomas was and if they did, why was he not drafted as the number 1 overall selection?

30 or so teams? No... He was like 12th pick. People knew he was for real no question about it. And because you don't draft a safety #1 overall lol

A lot of good players came from that draft but even with that if you did a redraft you could make the argument for safety as the top two picks. So if you can do it in hindsight you should most definitely be able to do it in foresight.

I wouldn't ignore the idea. IMO, Davis is nothing and Taylor carries big question marks.

Some analysts believe that while wide receiver is gaining all the attention, the cornerback crop is actually superior, with potential for major bargains. That 16 year old (now 17) analyst Mackenzie has Top 10 grades on Verrett, Gilbert and Fuller. He asserts that Verrett is the best corner he has ever scouted and Fuller is better in run support than any corner currently in the NFL. Granted, "ever" in Mackenzie's case is all of 5 years.

I haven't looked at it closely but in brief impressions I thought Gilbert will tease you with big plays but also give up more burst plays than normal, and Dennard will adapt to the NFL better than conventional wisdom generally allows. I don't want to be on the low side of evaluating players coming out of that Michigan State defense, as long as the physical skills are there. Verrett's size issues limit his upside since he likes to play behind the receiver and then close at the last second. Bigger bodies in the NFL won't allow that style to be as effective. Fuller will be solid and dependable but probably never an All Pro type. I agree that Fuller could transition to safety, despite his current weight. That might be his best position ultimately. I've watched him for years against the Canes and he's incredibly sharp out there. You could see him read Stephen Morris' eyes and diagnose the play before the snap. One of the reasons he's so great against the run is he gets a jump on the receiver and avoids the block.

Unfortunately for us Cane fanatics, Fuller was not the only one able to read Morris' eyes.
