Anyone wish Bates was still our DC?

How did Bates go from someone the board criticized for his lack of innovation and vanilla schemes, to a defensive guru? IMO Bates would be nowhere if it wasn't for Jimmy Johnson's excellent picks.

Each week we on this board, and others, bemoaned the Defensive schemes and salivated when, finally, the Tiger defense was used, or there were more than 3 blitzes a game, hoping for a change. Bates is one lucky guy.
 
Do I wish that Bates was still our DC? No, I wish he was our head coach. I personally think that Saban will be a huge failure in the NFL and I have regretted his hire from day 1.
 
No, Bates was not why our D was as good at it was. In fact you can make a case they got worse after he became the DC. I think coach Hill was a much better DC.
