Apparently at the interview yesterday the Bucs Hickey hit one out of the park

I think this is how the interview went.

Questions 1: Can you spend a ton of cash in free agency and not generate any wins because of it?

Answer: Well we did bring in Vincent Jackson, Dashon Goldson, and we traded for Darrelle Revis to give him 96 million dollars, I think I can spend you money.

Question 2: How do you feel about second rounds picks?

Answer: Just throw em away. I drafted Da'quan Bowers, Brian Price, Arellious Benn, Dexter Jackson, Arron Sears, and Sabby Piscitelli since 2007.

Question 3: How do you feel about head coaches?

Overrated, thats why we gave Raheem Morris and Greg Schiano the job.

Why do we insist on searching other bad teams front offices for a new GM? Ross needs to pull some cash out of his pocket and BUY the best GM in the league. What is so difficult?

Yeah new rule! Starting now. If you post an Armando article, you must say so in the post or title. Lets all stop giving that ****er hits!

And what has Mangini accomplished...Well, period as anything other than a coordinator?

I think he is a brilliant football mind that has selected players well at his two stops as a HC.

He has also smeared the Pats dynasty by outing them as cheaters. I love that.

There is nothing in any of his accomplishments that shows any success other than
being a ballboy, and a coordinator.

I just went back and reviewed his drafts. There's not a great deal to be impressed with, IMO.
His judgement regarding QBs in particular....And a notable catastrophic 1st round bust.

I hope we hurry along, looks like Houston may be looking. They got rid of their highest ranking personnel executive.

I would argue the guy that Houston just let go is a reasonable candidate to be interviewed
for our GM job. Talent was never Houston's problem, and this move shows how bad they have
been as an organization since their inception, other than selection of talented players.

Any of these guys deserves a shot. However, this meandering process could create reasonable doubt of why it took so long to hire him.

I would argue that we have already passed that point. From where I am sitting it appears that the best candidates are making it clear that they won't accept the job given Ross's proposed power sharing structure. And frankly, they shouldn't. A general manager has ultimate responsibility for how the team performs on the field. They should have commensurate control over the personnel required to be a success in the position. To accept any other arrangement is to raise the risk of failure. Anyone who is a leading candidate for this position will know that they at some point in the future be offered a job with a traditional power structure. It is not to their advantage to take a job where the owner handcuffs them so they can not succeed.

Did you know his last draft in the NFL (2010) has produced one present starter, one
situational player, and one career backup QB whereas Ireland's draft from the same
year has produced three starters, a journeyman OG, and one situational player?

Not to mention between the two teams, MIA's teams have been signifigantly better?
I'd say his 2007 draft was a total debacle other than J Thomas.

Ross should have cleaned house.

You might be right, but if they have one they really like already and are just seeing if they can find one better, they might wind up losing him.

Based on what facts do you reach this conclusion?

Please quote something, anything that validates this.

Please quote something, anything that validates this.

Please note that I qualified my statement by saying "From where I am sitting it appears". The statement is a conclusion drawn from the same publicly available sources that anyone on this board can read. Now how did I reach my conclusion:

a. Teams generally want to have new GMs and head scouts in place before the Shrine game and the Senior Bowl. Not having the position filled before these games puts the new GM at a serious disadvantage in his first draft.
b. The Dolphins have now interviewed more candidates than is usually the case in a GM search.
c. There are published reports that people who should have no part of a GM search (Dawn Aponte) are involved in the process.
d. Ross has publicly stated that the new GM will not have the power to fire/hire a head coach.

My logic:

a. Candidates who are exceptional already know that they are exceptional.
b. These candidates also know that they will have more than one opportunity in the future to receive an offer for a GM position.
c. Truly exceptional candidates can afford to turn down a job if the situation is not optimal for their success.
d. The Dolphins have exceeded the normal amount of time and candidates interviewed for this type of position.

This implies that either :

(1) The Dolphins have failed to interview an exceptional candidate for the position,
(2) The Dolphins have interviewed an exceptional candidate but have failed to identify that candidate as exceptional,
(3) Exceptional candidates for the position are not making themselves available to be interviewed,
(4) The internal politics of the Dolphins front office have made it impossible for the organization to agree on a candidate and make an offer, or
(5) None of the exceptional candidates that have been identified and have had discussions about an offer have been willing to take the job under its current political constraints.

Viewing the various options above I judge option 5 to be most likely.
