Apparently at the interview yesterday the Bucs Hickey hit one out of the park

You had me until you said this. Most of the members of this board are by nature overly optimistic about everything the team does. Most of the time reality has proven their oversized optimism to be wrong. If you really want to persuade me that you are right, show me pessimists who agree with your arguments. For the last fifteen years it has been the pessimists who have proven to have credible opinions born out by reality.

Is that so? Show me your quantification with facts rather than broad stroke opinion.

I would use solid, concrete data that shows he is at the leading edge of his chosen
profession, and his profession involves lots of the same processes involved in
football. While his track record as an owner have not been great, he has been
consistantly trying to improve the team and keep it in MIA instead of chasing
deals elsewhere, unlike many other owners in the NFL. He has never hired a GM
before. I'm willing to give him a shot at it, since it's a decision lots of owners
screw up pretty routinely.

That's then nature of sports and competition. There are always more losers than winners. That's why we value the winners so much. Most understand, especially in the NFL the line between bad, AVG, good and GREAT is very very small.

It's far easier to be negative when it comes to sports. After all the odds are in their favor, in a BIG way. I'm not sure being negative is a sign of anything more than someone who plays the odds, because they might get their feelings hurt.

Wayne Huizenga was still running the show when Parcells, Sparano and Ireland were appointed.
Stephen Ross is the biggest real estate developer in New York City and has the biggest single development taking place in the country. He is a self made billionaire who started his career as a corporate tax attorney in Detroit and worked his way up by making good decisions and good appointments. Over the past decade he has donated over $200M to Michigan University, his alma mater. In the course of the past 6 years, he has progressively learned from some mistakes as an owner. However, before rushing for the cyanide capsules or slashing wrists over the next disaster, why don't we wait and observe who he appoints. Our owner is a very great man who has enjoyed levels of success that most of us cannot comprehend. He is approaching the GM appointment in a thorough way and has Carl Peterson and others as key advisors in this process. I'm an optimist by nature but I'm pretty confident that he will make a good appointment.

Please...ever since he took over it's been a dam **** show. He has no clue when it comes to Football...obviously. I give him credit for hiring Parcells at the beginning and Cells screwed him big time. A man with this much money and power should just find the best Football guy out there and let him take complete charge of the this cluster F. Ross can then sit back and let this guy handle everything. Fng Parcells set us back big time....AHOLE

Let me get this straight; You give him credit for hiring the guy that pretty much singlehandedly destroyed this franchise.
You want "A man with this much money and power" to find "The best football guy out there", when he pretty much
did exactly that, and it didn't work? Wow. You're pretty hard to please.

A truer statement has never been made. It is a pet peeve of mine that I get upset when somebody (myself included) says that player x on an NFL roster is a failure. In fact, just to make it to an NFL camp means that you are among the best players in the world. The difference between being one of the top 100 players versus the top 1000 players versus the top 1500 players in the world is paper thin.

But Ross signed Sparano to a contract extension and he always thought Ireland was great. Two BIG mistakes

Certainly don't disagree with you. Ross needs to have someone who knows something about football, pick the GM. Then let that GM take charge and make the decisions. No way in hell is a top flite GM going to want to inherit Philbin as his head coach. If the GM wants Philbin canned so be it. Ross just needs to keep his nose out of it.

It is obvious that Ross needs a czar to simply run this team for him.

Ok, I was looking at the Senior Bowl rumors. Someone please tell Ross to come back, hire Xanders and leave the country for a year to conduct other business! This is Scary: "Some sources found it laughable that Hickey was interviewed for the Dolphins general manager position and believe that was further proof that Miami owner Stephen Ross doesn't know what he's doing. Some in the league view Hickey as a coach and general-manager killer. The Bucs are on their fourth head coach and will be on third general manager since Hickey was promoted to the director of college scouting in 2006. In the scouting community, Hickey has the reputation of making a lot of poor evaluations that have led to a plethora of busted picks for Tampa Bay. - Walterfootball."
