Are we in the market for a WR?

I think either A: They are worried about Boston or B: Booker could be on his way out

Ummm. Boston is on a 1 year minimum deal and Booker has the best hands on the team. I dont think so.

Getting Price would be one of those overboard moves, but Saban likes receivers as the driver of offensive explosiveness, and Linehan likes receivers as the same thing, so it is not surprising that they would err on the side of having too many good receivers. It's not like we've got a whole lot of cap space tied up in the receiver department, despite having talented guys like Chambers, Booker, and Boston. Welker is a low-paid guy, Gilmore is getting nothing, Boston is getting the vet's minimum, Booker's contract is affordable, and the first one ot be cut if we signed Price would probably be Thompson.

I've thought about it and having 4 quality guys could be justified as important for depth and for duration.
Depth - since we have no QB, we might as well improve the other side of the pass delivery. He's better than Thompson in my mind, but would cost considerably more. Also, Boston's history of injuries is a good reason.
Duration - If Boston has a big year he might get swept up in free agency next year by a contender willing to pay big bucks for a guy that can contribute immediately. Price would then slip in as the 2nd or 3rd wideout for next season (assuming they sign him to a multi-year deal).

End of the day though, I think Saban is just being prudent by evaluating him and maybe checking the price tag. Window shopping!

Let's hold off on analyzing the cost until we see some figures tossed around on what kind of offers he's fielding. I have a suspicion that everyone on the board is grossly overestimating the value of his next contract...

  • Why not take a look at every player the staff thinks may help the team. I mean they may find the guy is a better player or they may find that the player on our roster is better.
  • Saban is always looking to improve... he will not stay static... it's the process and it keeps all players on their toes.
  • It's a business.

Yep. Perfectly said. The man is not lazy. If he sees a small chance to improve the team, he will look into it. Besides, it tells our current #4 and #5 guys that they need to continue to work to keep jobs next year..

You guys are dreaming if you think Price will take min. money to come here to be the 4th or 5th wideout....After being a #2 in Buff. and trying to be #1 in Atl.

If either Chambers, Boston or Booker gets injured this year (which is more likely to happen than not) then we don't really have a guy who can come in and be a solid #3 WR. We've got Bryan Gilmore, Wes Welker, Danny Farmer and Maurice Mann... none of which are too impressive. I'm not too sure on what the deal is with Derrius Thompson but I don't think he'll even make the team (he's currently last on the depth chart)

Granted, I think our WR situation is more than OK, but it couldn't help to bring in another guy who could help.

Cut thompson and Mann sign Price to like a million dollar a year contract that if he wants to come to MIami.

I thought Farmer was cut? :hmmm:

I cant see why we DO NOT want to upgrade the WR corp.

CC is a #2 WR.Face the facts.HES NOT A #1.

MB oh my god a #2 wr and is on the decline.

DB very well could be a #1 but right now hes a 3/2 wr right now.

The rest of them are not #3's at all.

No reason to not atleast see what PP has left in the tank.He got a raw deal.Vick isnt a Pocket passer and well Vicks backups werent to good.Plus Vick was coming off an injury.
