Article: More NFL people come to the defense of Ireland (good read in my opinion)

As always, the board divided right in half......lol

Ozzy rules!!

Jeff does an average job evaluating talent, the problems don't arise until he starts asking players if their Momma's play the skin flute for extra cash.

you wouldn't happen to have a link for those quotes, would you?

No, and I do not feel like it would be worth it to even look for them. I do know that a number of talking heads were talking for weeks about what a poorly run franchise the Dolphins are etc etc but I do not care to make myself feel worse by seeing who said what. Plus, I do not really care who said what. And I do not consider this a serious discussion in any way shape or form.

Who cares what Ireland's former employer/has been and the biggest idiot in the world, Charlie Casserly has to say. Ireland is terrible at his job. Spin it any you want, he's still terrible at his job. He's still a prick. And he'll be fired in 2 seasons at the latest after wasting more draft picks, and wasting cap space on scrubs. Ireland's not a Parcells guy, but a Carl Peterson guy. Well, that makes me feel so much better... And Gil Brandt is right. Ireland has an idea of what it takes to be successful... In the 1970s when Gil Brandt had a job in an NFL front office. Sorry Gil, it's 2012.

Don't even get me started on the clueless wonder that is Steve Ross. No sense whatsoever in how to run a football team. Sure he wants what's best, but so did Wayne. Both want what's best, neither knows what's best.

of course you don't. because these guys never said it.
they have nothing to gain by praising Ireland, but I understand why you have to cut them down

Ha Ha Ha Ha how many years have many of you children have been dolphin fans? How many of you been through the Shula drafts of Eric Kummerow, John Bosa, OL Green etc that failed but Shula covered up those drafte with a cocaine snorting Marinio or that was the rumour at the time. Then the fans of that erea plus the media ran Shula out of town replaced Shula with JJ who taught Bill B how to take a few draft picks and make them many and in pick 10 plus players in his drafts grabbed Z THomas, J Taylor, P Surtain and S. Madison and thats about it. Marinio retired and all the complaining back then was that we had no running game and we spend 2 1st round picks on Ricky Williams and got us a win with J Fielder and 1 playoff game, then along came Nick Saban who lied and lost his way of town won little and drafted nothing, Cameron and Mueller the one year they were here lost all their games but 1 and their one draft pic to really make it P. Saloi took 3-4 years to develop. So now we have had Parcells/ Ireland that according to the posters in the know around here have failed just because they did not produce a QB and hit on more of their picks. Lets see Pouncy, Long, Davis, Marshall, Dansby, Wake, Carpender, ,Starks, Pennnington, Fasano, Bush, Bess, Fields, Odrick, Clay, Langford and Burnett. I am leaving off Bell and P Saloi that they held onto from the Muelller and ealeir. Thats 19 solid to all pro players that Ireland brought in his tenure or kept not to mention the Henne plus a host of other players he drafted that are still on NFL rosters along with the Dolphins. Like I have posted for you Ireland must go fans watch out what you wish for because we have already had 25 years of that and it was worse.

I don't really take anything Jerry Jones or Charlie Casserly have to say seriously, but at the same time, I'm not going to take seriously anyone who poo-poos Gil Brandt just because he said something marginally nice about Jeff Ireland.

I'd have preferred Ross cleaned house, but regardless, my immediate reaction when seeing the thread title was "More red meat for yet another Pavlovian droolfest!"

Why would we need other's opinions to figure Ireland's work out??

If someone is peeing on your leg & telling you its raining ... you can simply look down & see you're standing in a puddle of piss. What's the mystery?

The only real questions ... is he going to get us out of the pissy-puddle & keep his job?? Clock's ticking!!

Meh, I'm an optomist ... hoping to break the .500 Mendoza line this year!! Boo-Ya!!

Amen!!!!

How, exactly, is Ireland "out of touch" by building a team with a strong D, a strong OL, and a strong running game first? The Fins play in the AFC. Of the top AFC teams in 2011, only New England followed the supposed "new wave" of super offense/****ty defense -- and they got beat in the SB by a defense that got its act together at the end of the season and had a super run through the playoffs.

Baltimore, Houston, Pittsburgh, and Cincinatti were all top ten defenses. Baltimore and Houston had great running games while Pitt and Cinci had very good ones. Denver had an inconsistent defense but had the top running game in the league IIRC. Houston went 10-6 despite losing Schaub 10 or 11 games into the season. Cincinatti made the playoffs with a rookie QB. Joe Flacco might think he's the best QB in the NFL, but not a lot of others think that, and he really doesn't get to show what he can do because Baltimore runs the ball so much.

The AFC is top heavy with good defensive teams, and the running game remains important to success in the AFC. That doesn't seem likely to change soon.

Ireland partnered himself with PArcells view of a football team. He has done a good job with the defense and finding talent on that side. However in the last 4 years he has failed to draft one offensive playmaker, Only a few OL.

His view of the NFL offense and current winning teams is way outdated. Not sure what exactly you are defending. Yes he is a great sout but has failed to build a strong team here. What QB is any has he ever drafted other then Henne who is not that good. Parcells and Perterson GMs are build your defense and have a strong running team and only throw when you have to. that does not win games in the 4th quarter. The only reason KC was good with Peterson was becasue he was luck enough to add Joe Montana to the team.

How about Reggie Bush? Would Matt Moore qualify? While neither were "drafted", Ireland found them both... we would not have won a single game without them. There are 2 rookies that show promise too, TE and WR.

I didn't say he did nothing his first two years. But it is naive to think Parcells wasn't calling the shots and making most of the decisions while he was here.

And it's equally naive to state that last year was his "first year." Parcells may have had final say, but that didn't alleviate Ireland of all responsibility in generally bad personnel decisions. Or was he only responsible for the "good" moves made during that time period?
