We all know the facts that while the Dolphins sell out games there are always empty seats. On top of that 30-40% of the fans that do go are rooting for the other team. It might be bad and embarrassing, but nothing matches what happened yesterday at the Marlins game. Granted the threat of Hurricane Irene made people not go, but check out the photos below during the game. The attendance was 347 fans. I am not missing a number, that was the grand total.

That is flat out embarrassing. That team has won two World Series in fifteen years and fans can't even get their ***** out to see them. They sure as hell better get out for them when the Miami stadium is finished.

Damn that's like a HS football game.. even less than a lot of high schools actually. That's sad to see.

Well, while I believe you way over exaggerate the support Dolphin nation gives the fins, and I can back that up by what I see from Tampa fans where I live, that were blacked out all last season and will be this weekend, and I believe you greatly misunderstand the difference's between attending games in south Florida versus Charlotte or Nashville, yes the Marlins are in a much worse place.

347 at a high school? What high school did you go to? We regularly get 8000 in a small town.

I think they counted the peanut vendors in that total. Looks like less than 100 from the pictures.

How can a professional organization operate with such a low attendance? 347 wouldn't even cover the cost of staging the game, let alone players and coaches wages.

My old high school's stadium holds something like 5,000 or 6,000 people but there always a tremendous amount more that come and stand at the fence or at the fence outside the stadium. My old high school was sort of like the Patriots of high school football. Including last season I don't think they have had a losing season since the 80s. For a long time they couldn't get past the Eastern championship game. They would make it almost every year, but always come up short. However, since 2003 they have been to the State Championship game three times and won once. In my home town if the football team loses one or two regular season games it is a major disappointment.

i am in no way saying that people down here support the marlins like most other places but in all fairness to this game you had irene looming, hot weather and dade/broward/palm beach counties starting school this week..........plus the fact the economy could be better down here

add to the fact that they are out of the post season and in most years they have traded off there top stars for future prospects, not sure if this is still true but believe it or not they have gotten pretty decent tv ratings here so people down here do know we have a baseball team and do own a hat or jersey.........we just dont go to the games very often

Yea I figured I undershot somewhere. lol. That's why I threw in the latter. My school didn't have too many though, for one, our field used to be a middle school's field, and our school didn't win very much. So it wasn't usually filled out all the way. ****.. half the crowd that went to the games went just to have dance competitions on the track around the field..
