Barry Jackson: Discusses Line Before and After Martin Saga, Other Notes

Now if only third rounder Dallas Thomas could come around... we might actually have some depth.

I have not seen the difference between McKennie and Martin on the field. He has given up 3 fewer sacks but the same in hits and hurries. He is also getting beat more that Martin did, and is considerably worse in run blocking.

Clabo has been re-born, and is much better than before being benched. This is where the OL has improved in giving RT one side to be able to go to.

I really like Brenner, had a big thread on him after his first game but, he needs a year to get stronger and develop to be a starter.

Channing Chrowder was saying on his show that while Brenner was pulling great and getting to the 2nd lvl he was getting run over when he got there. I kinda took it with a grain of salt but has anyone seen the film that this is true? The highlights usually don't include guard or tackle play

I did see that a couple of times but, also saw him make a couple of very nice blocks when pulling. He needs some time. One other thing is his ability to play center. We could consider moving Pouncey to LG. He would be among the best pulling and athletic OG's in the NFL.

Two things; It won't hurt to bring back Big Mac regardless of how many new corn fed boys we bring in. And, Rat Fink refused to turn over all his texts.

Once more, any body still think he was a "victim"?

I think there will be alot of continuity. bring Jerry, Brenner and of course Pouncy will be back. I have high hopes for Yeatman, could be our starting RT. with how old Clabo and McKinney are we have to think about replacing them. I would bring them both back as insurance but draft future replacements and try out Yeatman and hopefully Dallas Thomas pulls a Paul Soali

Maybe McKennie asked for the contract to be torn up after finding out that the OL meetings would no longer be held at strip clubs. :)

I'd even be happy if he 'pulled a John Jerry' at this point.

i'll never understand why they tore up that $2.7 mil option for 2014 to retain mckinnies services...
Looks like it was a stipulation in the trade from what I gather. Seems they both agreed to nullify the last year if McKinnie came to Miami in play.

I did hear Joe Rose say this morning that McKinnie would like to stay here and play though.

Our running game improves but, McKinnie isn't better than Martin? You sound young. McKinnies experience alone is enough to make him better than martin.lol. That was just a funny post. "Worse in run blocking"? Do you even watch the games?

Considering the last 4 first round draft picks, (Odrick,Pouncey,Tannehill, Jordan) including the two offensive linemen they drafted (Pouncey and Long) I feel confident we choose to draft a linnemen with the first pick, that he would be a plug and play LT.

Pouncey and Long were drafted higher than anyone else at their position ever. Jordan is an unknown guy with no real position on this team. Odrick has been decent, but better players were passed over when Ireland traded down. Ireland has drafted only 8 OL in 6 years and only 1 of them really panned out, mainly because he reached for Pouncey. All the FA OLmen Ireland has brought in have failed miserably outside of McKinnie (who was signed a half season too late). Ireland has completely failed trying to rebuild our OL twice now and should not be given a third try.

Pouncey was but Long wasn't.

1968 Ron Yary (USC) was taken #1 overall by the Vikings
1997 Orlando Pace (OSU) was taken #1 overall by the Rams

As you know, I watch the games at least twice and focus on the OL. Tell me where or when you saw McKennie blocking well on the run? It just isn't true. I'm not saying that Martin was good, just not as bad.

If you want to nitpick your right I should have said 'as high or higher'. Point being they were drafted too high.

Brenner is not a big guy, and he is not gonna wind up being a mauler. But... he sealed the edge on that 55 yard run by Daniel Thomas, did he not? Dude can play. I think he might be our new starting LG.
