Barry Jackson: Dolphins narrow their search to three finalist

A former o-line coach who doesn't call plays, an OC who had a worse offense than ours, and a position coach who isn't very good.
Not sure whether to laugh or cry.

I've read on here that Mike McCarthy, when OC for the 49ers, had the 32nd ranked offense in S.F. before becoming Green Bay's HC.

I'm sure you were aware of that...

Don't get Zimmer being too blunt? Did he tell Ireland he sucks as a GM? Did Zimmer tell Ross about all the wrong moves Ross has made since buying the team? Don't get it. Oh well, it's a crap shoot anyway. Just hope we get lucky and pick a winner.

When he first saw Ross for his interview, he called him a "big eared goofy toothpick chewing son of two cows who ****ed on Christmas virgin geek ****bag loser".

True story, bro.

There's a difference between being a straight-shooter and being too blunt. A straight-shooter would say "your performance isn't where it needs to be, you need to improve". Someone who is too blunt would say "You f*cking suck, get better or I'm cutting your *ss". Now, on average, which one is going to get the better response from his team? If anyone says the blunt guy, you haven't taken any psychology courses, ever. Whine and cry all you want, countless studies show that positive reinforcement is the best way to get the most out of someone, and it's not even close.

I'm not saying that's how Zimmer is. I don't know the guy and I doubt I've heard say more than a few sentences. But, if he comes off as someone like that, someone who risks losing the locker room because no one likes him, you can't possibly blame Ross for not going that way. It has nothing to do with insulting the interviewers, all though that can't help matters if it happened. You always hire the guy who is going to get the most out of the players, and it sounds like Ross has at least a rudimentary understanding of psychology and business, both of which are more involved in an NFL team than most realize...

The front office would need to let the coach do this thing. Keep your ***** in the air conditioned rooms while the coach does his job. They've have no way of knowing how 'honest' Zimmer would be with anyone, especially during their initial or follow-up interview.

There has to be another explanation for why he isn't being considered any longer.

Wow. With so many interesting directions the Dolphins could have taken this offseason that I would have felt happy about, we're left with about the only three I feel I'd have a hard time getting behind.

Well, guess I'll hope I'm wrong but more than likely go back to complaining how the Dolphins are run by incompetent boobs eventually. Ugh.

Just the statement that they liked Zimmer's resume, but he is to honest, should tell you the level of complete ineptitude we are dealing with. The Miami Dolphins front office is a complete joke. Owner, Gm., and that old bastage Peterson.

Yes, this is my impression too. How pathetic.

Ireland already worked with Zimmer, got along with him and knew exactly what he is like so it must have been dumbo & his buddy King Carl who didn't want him.

How many more years will we have to deal with Ross' incompetent ownership?

But he did a good job as oc in NO prior to that he had some history of success. Not like well he is the 32nd ranked oc in his only season and we liked what we saw

Now how the **** are any of these clowns a "young Don Shula"

well i thimk thats why mccoy is in mix he is young but thin resume to be a head coach. cant believe zimmer is not a better canidate in their eyes. i have a feeling we are hiring mccoy so we can hype up the young angle. i prefer philben he has done something to deserve a promtion

That was my first thought also. Don't know if its accurate necessarily, but I think thats the most logical conclusion. Ireland already knew what Zimmer was about and couldn't have been surprised by his "honesty" or "bluntness." I think Ross is the one who passed on Zimmer. Not that it really makes a difference in the long run, I guess...:(

People can speculate on who is screwing the pooch: Ross, Ireland, or Peterson. To me, its a collective cluster ****. They are all playing a part.

Ross is an idiot who is in over his head and wants a kiss ***. Peterson is utterly incompetant and doesnt have the stones to tell his friend he's out of his mind. And Ireland has no backbone or integrity. Combine it all together...and well, people better start getting used the upcoming 5-11 season.
