Can we please try to convince Steve that Gus Malzahn is actually a Michigan grad?
As previously posted, before the draft Ireland had dinner with Philbin and other coaches. He asked them if there was one player in the entire draft, who they would want. They all answered Jordan.
He got with Oakland and offered our second 2nd rounder with our first. They said no, and they hung up. He reconsidered called back, upped the offer to our first 2nd, and they took it.
True story.

Im sure Ireland did no evaluation of Jordan nor did our scouts. My point is they wouldn't have drafted him if they were not high on him.
We obviously were the only team that high on him since no other team offered better than that for the third pick in the draft. Was a weak draft at the top but solid draft overall which is why I wish we had stayed put. You get probably three starting caliber players with good potential rather than swinging for the fences with a guy I had rated with a lot of guys around our original pick. Three chances to be right. U have to applaud the balls to do this even if u don't agree with the pick. if the pick had been stellar , maybe Ireland keeps his job. Jordan may be a very good player in time but no excuse for him to lose playing time to Derrick friggin Shelby. Not a knock on Shelby but when he cannot beat out this guy he might not be worth the third pick in the draft just saying. Could have been worse we could have drafted Hayden and taken Watson with our second pick. Jesus the Raiders are the worst run franchise in the league[/QUOTE
Pass rushers are at a premium in today's NFL, and I have no problem in Ireland making that move. I was never one for the "rush to judgement" and will wait and see how this plays out.
I did like what Jordan flashed last year, with TE coverage as important as the pass rush.

I agree pass rushers are at a premium I just don't agree he is a premium pass rusher or ever was. Not that it matters Jarvis Jones was a monster rushing the passer in college and was nothing special last year. I feel we overpaid because we saw a premium player based on trying to project him as such rather than what was actually shown in college
Sorta of true. The dinner was the coaches, Jeff and Ross.
Ross asked the question, not Jeff, and mostly everybody(including Jeff) said Jordan was their guy.
Jeff did offer the later second round pick and the Raiders turned it down. However, the Raiders are the ones that called back asking about the earlier second round pick. Jeff did not call the second time.
This isn't an attempt to put "blame" on others, just wanted to correct the story to what actually happened. I still think Jordan can be a hell of a player and there were a few factors why he didn't play more and only had 2 sacks during the season. Vernon had the light go on and had a breakout season and early in the year Jordan was still dealing with his shoulder injury. Now that he is healthy, a full offseason of strength training and the fact he already has a year under his belt is huge. It is very possible we could see a Vernon like growth where he just starts to dominate on a consistent basis. The trio of Wake, Vernon and and Jordan is something to be very excited about.
Wow, Philbin really hated Ireland. seems like he would get more love around here for that fact alone.
I'm very interested to see what a year of off-season training can do for last year's rookie class.
Our mistake was we should have never let Jake Long go. We had a starting left tackle, and we tried to get too cute with the OL and cheap (which most of yall wanted) and putting too much faith in Martin.
Did you see Jake with the Rams this year? He was better than what we had a LT but his play isn't the kind I want to dump a ton of money into.
Coach Philbin has not yet proven he can win with his, let alone win with yours.
Considering Ross was wowed by Caserio’s presentation, did he seriously consider agreeing to Caserio’s demand to be given the authority to overhaul the organization “from the ground up," including the coach? No, a close friend of Ross insisted, because Ross is “loyal to his people,” and loves Philbin’s "intelligence" and "how he handled" the locker-room crisis. Caserio might have hired Patriots assistant Josh McDaniels as Dolphins coach but never told the Dolphins that….

I love the pick of Jordan. It is about using him correctly. It might take the coaching staff to actually be creative and utilize his strengths as a football (player).
