Jackson's Dolphins notes: 8/1

DOLPHINS NOTES

### Even with three more botched snaps Thursday (involving Nate Garner --- who took the first-team center snaps --- and David Arkin), Joe Philbin still insists: “I’m confident we can get it fixed.”

But even beyond the snapping issues and one or two unsettled offensive line positions, the passing game is not where the Dolphins want it.

“We still had a drop or two,” Philbin said. “We still had maybe an accuracy issue here or there. When the plays present themselves to make, we’ve got to do a better job making them on a more consistent basis.”

Brian Hartline put it this way: “You can see it coming along. You can see guys, myself included, playing better, playing faster. [But] we’re nowhere near where we want to be. We’re still working on timing. We’re still working on getting in and out of the huddle faster, getting lined up faster, maintaining our tempo through the heat. That will come with time.”

### The undrafted rookie running backs, Damien Williams and Orleans Darkwa, are both pushing Mike Gillislee, and Williams has been more impressive than Daniel Thomas at times.

“They are both fundamentally sound football players,” Philbin said Thursday of Williams and Darkwa. “I thought in the last drill we had, I think we ran an outside zone to the left and they do a good job of ball security. They are not afraid to step up there in pass protection. I like the group. I think it’s a good, young group.”

### Really like how the secondary is coming along. Reshad Jones has had a good camp, Louis Delmas appears to be an upgrade over Chris Clemons, Cortland Finnegan has been solid and Jamar Taylor seems much improved. And Brent Grimes remains one of the team's best players, of course.

JuWuan James was a reach, and we failed to trade up for Lewan

FOR GOD SAKE DIGITAL, when are some of you guys going to get the FACT that o-lineman are NOT plug n play. you cant just stick them in any scheme and its a done deal. THE ZONE BLOCK ABSOLUTELY DEPENDS ON ATHLETIC, GREAT FEET, GOOD BALANCE AND QUICK TO THE SECOND LEVEL PLAYERS!!

all these guys people were spit slobbering for us to trade away pics for [that we really couldnt afford with the few we had] and take o-lineman who absolutely didnt fit or have the skill set to be in the zbs are LOST!! and its getting old that some of you just REFUSE to get educated on scheme and the players you have to have to run it!!

and now, it appears that MOST of these guys everyone wanted, most drafted to the power schemes they belong in ARE STRUGGLING BIG!! i think all but one of the spit slobber fan fav's are having issues. their rookies, but, its sounds like people are convinced all these guys the team "passed up" came in and are looking like pro bowlers in camp. all of these guys in there scouting reports were noted as having SLOW FEET, SLOW TO THE SECOND LEVEL, KICK SLIDE ISSUES, ETC..., all the things you HAVE TO HAVE to be a successful zbs player. but because they were labeled as the top prospects, no one payed attention to the skills they needed, only that they were labeled top prospects.

james was one of the ONLY guys who possessed all the skills for a zbs. he and turner. will james play at some point as a 1st round choice should? NOBODY knows. but taking a guy with ALL the skills you need for the scheme over slow footed power scheme maulers would have been the WRONG move. AND cost us draft picks that we only had a handful to begin with. so, how does all that compute to being the move hickey should have made?

please, for all that is good in the universe people, stop all this "we should have taken" [place slow footed meat head here] nonsense. it's become embarrassing!

Who are you saying did not fit? You may want to check it out before answering.
