Basement Team?

Im saying that tongue in cheek with extreme exaggeration, but in all reality the Pats are a great team and the rest of the division really blows. I think that the Bills will be slightly better than they were last year (unless they get ravaged by injuries again) the Jets are going to collapse because they can't move the football, Sanchez is a turnover machine, and Tony Sparano is an abysmal football coach, and we're terrible because we still have no quarterback, no weapons on offense, a below average pass D and no pass rushers at all besides Wake... So yeah, I was joking but kinda not really...
if you were "kinda" joking, what is your REAL record prediction for the Dolphins? I know it is not 2 or 4 wins because no one would make that ridiculous of a bad prediction.

Gun to my head I'd say 6 or 7 wins again. I really don't think we got better, in fact I think we got a lot worse on offense by losing Marshall. Also, while the schedule may look easy right now, its too early to tell who's going to be what next year.
So with that being said, obviously anything can happen in the NFL and I hope I'm wrong. Maybe we will be that surprise team next year, maybe our D gets even better this year under Coyle, maybe Tannehill starts all year and plays like Big Ben did in his rookie year, maybe Lamar Miller or DT shocks the world and has a huge year running the ball while Brian Hartline turns into a legit #1 WR. Unfortunately, while all of those things are possible, none are likely.
In my opinion, the answer at QB isn't on the roster, I don't think we'll be able to run the ball now that we'll see nothing but 8 man fronts without Marshall, I see no weapons at WR, and all around our defense is good but not great... We need a safety that can cover in a TERRIBLE way.
So like I said 6 or 7, but I think I just talked myself into believing we'll be worse.... 5 wins just to be fair.

But hey don't get too upset, I think that the Jets are ****in terrible too. Lol its pretty funny how I try to tell you how bad the Dolphins are and then turn around and argue with Junc because he refuses to accept reality about the Jets God awful team.
Welp, hoping against hope again.

There was a time when you could automatically pick Buffalo and be close most of the time. Those days are gone IMO.

I think the last place team this year will have a few catastrophic injuries or events happen to them. Even New England could be bad enough if something happened to Brady to contend for the bottom spot - especially with their defense. Miami's new system, youngsters and key injuries could send them to the bottom. Buffalo has a good defense and that alone may keep them out of the cellar but their offense needs to improve or they are in danger. NY has a good defense but they imploded last year and I think their offense has seriously gone backwards with the new coaching and I think it will be easier to implode earlier and louder if the Sparano-orchestrated Sanchez/Tebow circus comes to town early.

All that said, I think either Miami or New York are the best bets for the bottom because we in Miami have to have so many things go right early this year and NY has so many things that will probably go wrong. I really do think any team could be first or last this year, though.

I think your post naisl it head on. The only thing I dont see is anyone but the Pats finishing 1st without Brady going down though

bradys stat drop is more from having horrible WRs outside of welker, who is in no way a true number one. The WRs on the outside being horrible really effect deeper passing plays.

I have to disagree with you regarding Brady's stat drop
He had more completions last season (401) than any year in his 12 year career
His touchdown total was second in his 12 years
He also led the NFL with 72 completions of 20 yards or more
His total yards passing last season (5235) was his best of his career
His yards per catch(13.1) was best of his career

If only we could have a comparable stat drop for whoever is our QB

Until further notice, the Bills are the 4th team in the division. I think they are being greatly overrated this offseason. I understand they signed Mario Williams, but they suddenly didn't become a playoff team because of it. They have probably the worst head coach in the division, even though Philbin hash't proven anything. Bills are improved, but a 10+ win team? No way, their ceiling is 8 wins in my opinion.

Dolphins are probably an 8 or 9 win team this season. Jets are probably hovering around the same number, but if any team collapses and wins something like 4 or 5 games, it is the Jets.

The Bills have done much more than simply sign Mario Williams.
  • First, they hired Dave Wannstadt as their DC. Wanny may not be a great HC, but he's a pretty DC.
  • The Bills also added QB coach David Lee to work with Fitzpatrick and the other QBs. He's working on Fitz's mechanics, which hopefully improves his accuracy.
  • Yes, the Bills signed Mario Williams in FA. They also added pass rushing specialist Mark Anderson from the Pats. With Anderson, the Bills look to have a DL that looks like Mario Williams, Marcel Dareus, Kyle Williams, and Anderson/Chris Kelsay or possibly Shawne Merriman if his surgery last season has truly fixed his Achilles problem. A good pass rush will make the Bills solid safeties and decent cbs better.
  • The Bills dealt with their perennial OT problem by letting mediocre Demetress Bell walk, and drafted 3 OLers, including 2 OTs in the draft. They also return 2nd year pro Hairston and journeyman Pearse at OT.
  • Overall, the Bills had a nice draft, adding some valuable pieces for the future like Gilmore (CB) and Graham (WR) in addition to the OLers already mentioned.
  • They also added Vince Young as a backup QB. I'm not sure how this will play out, and nobody else really does, either. He may not even make the team, but it demonstrates that the Bills FO is working hard to improve talent at every position.

You, like many other fans who don't follow the Bills, underestimate Chan Gailey. He's very innovative on the offensive side of the ball, and has come up with schemes to make the most of the Bills limited amount of talent. Only in his third season as HC have the Bills finally assembled a respectable amount of NFL caliber talent on both sides of the ball.

I don't know how the Bills will do on the field, but I know I will be very disappointed if they don't win at least 9 games.

I think our D will be significantly better this year w/ the additions of Coples, the safeties and the return of Bryan Thomas along w/ a slimmed down Bart Scott and most importantly Rex will be calling the defense again. Will it be as good as '09? probably not but it will be much better than 2011 where it was simialr to Miami's D.

This is wishful thinking IMO. Coples is a rookie who will be transitioning from a 4-3 DE to a 3-4 DE or OLB, so he not only has to learn about the NFL, he has to learn a new position, too. He's also not exactly praised for his work ethic.

Aside from Harris, your LBs are at best, an okay group but nothing special, especially for a 3-4 team. Maybin is a big liability against the run.

Your new safeties are Landry who may NOT even be ready to play, and Bell who is as old as Methusela. Both are good against the run. However, even healthy and in their primes, neither one was particularly good in pass coverage, so now they may very well be liabilities.

Who's your FS again? Oh, that's right! You don't have one! Rumor has it that Jabba is going to resurrect his Daddy's 4-6 defense as a major part of the Jests defense. The problem with that scheme is that teams in this century are pass happy not run happy. Just because Jabba and Meatball want to turn the clock back 25 years doesn't mean that their opponents will oblige them. Try the 4-6 against NE and watch Gronkowski, and Hernandez run wild.

Good post, I'm not a Bills fan but you make some very good points and it's great to have optimism as many of us Phin fans have also. Anyway it's nice to see a divsion foe come in here and talk football without the childish and ridiculous posts I've seen from others.:brewskis:

I went to high school with Pears. He's a big dude and has been that way since he was a sophmore HS. I believe his older brother Morgan was cut by Miami a few years ago. I think Pears may have finally found a home in Buffalo and IMO deserves a new contract but we will see.

Miami will probably be 2nd if things go fantastic with the coaching and players, or 3rd if we have too many growing pains to limp through.
I think Bills are getting a lot of hype, but I dont see their defense being primed to win each and every game, especially with a weak offense that will probably keep their newly-coveted D on the field more than they should be.

Jets will be 4th. Theres No way a team with Sparano at the reins of the offense gets many wins. Just not happening.

1. Patriots 15-1
2. Bills 8-8
3. Jets 4-12
4. Dolphins 2-14

Wow...that's worse than my 3-13 prediction last year. I think we will be better than that just because better coaching and sheer dumb luck...but not much better...

Yeah, I remember stuff like this from you last year before we started 0-7...

You are criticizing my prediction of 9-7 last year, yet you had a prediction of 3-13? Doesn't seem like you have a lot of room to talk. The team I predicted last year was the one we saw that went 6-3 to end the year. The 0-7 team had to deal with a quarterback change and a brand new offense that had no offseason to prepare. Seems I was closer in my predicition than you were.

We havent been last in the division since 07. Why do you guys think buffalo is better than us when we destroyed them twice last year? Its a threeway race and can go anyway but I think new york has too many distractions to keep up. Tebow will be their qb at some point haha so that leaves us and new england.
