BCS scenarios as season winds down

You don't really believe all this nonsense do you?

No not really. I was just trying to make conversation. 'Bama fans have been kinda MIA recently. Just trying to see if there are any out there. Can always count on you Slim.

I've been busy with high school football lately and we're in the middle of a playoff run as defending 5-A champions... on top of being under the weather a little bit. I didn't even go to the Western Carolina game Saturday due to being sick.... gave my tickets to my nephew and his wife to go.

As far as Bama goes, we just need to keep winning. The thing about the BCS is that it creates tremendous pressure, and the coaching staffs and players feel it. Sometimes these teams like Oregon, Kansas St., etc. don't always deal with it well. Oklahoma St. couldn't deal with it last year.

Bama used up a lot of emotional energy on the road to escape Death Valley with a win against LSU the week prior to the Texas A&M game.... and aTm tends to jump out on you quick, especially if you're flat. It was 20-0 by the time we got our bearings.... and still should've won the game had we just run the ball down on the goalline.

aTm jumped out to a 12-0 lead on LSU halfway through the 2nd quarter.... had a 17-7 lead on Florida in the 2nd quarter... and had a 24-0 lead at halftime on Mississippi St.

Kevin Sumlin has done an outstanding job with that team, and they're much more physical on defense in the front 7 than they were last year. Sumlin's "Nascar" offense and 4-vert concepts will always be identifiable with the Big-12's style of play.... but that ain't no Big-12 team. That I can guarantee.

Manziel could be as good of a dual threat quarterback that we've ever seen in the SEC by the time his days are done.

The other issue was this silly interception-less streak that A.J. McCarron was on. It got in his head and he began to play tighter and tighter every week.... double clutching wide open receivers because he couldn't pull the trigger. After he threw the first pick against aTm he finally started pulling the trigger because he didn't have to worry about it anymore.

Secondly, we need to simplify our defense rather than trying to substitute so much with "specialists" for every package. That's why we had so much trouble with aTm's no huddle.... we were trying to sub too much.

I do know this much... give Saban and his bunch a month to prepare, and a month for all Bama's players to get healthy and refreshed... it's lights out for whoever.

Slimm, do you have any big boys up front on your team who can hold a block for more than a few seconds and some WRs who can get open downfield? I'm dying over here watching our trainwreck of an offense.

I understand Aubrey Hill leaving at the beginning of the season was bad for our WRs (although some were dissatisfied with his coaching anyway) but I've never seen anything like this.

I certainly understand that. Me and the family drove through Alabama on the way to and from visiting my wife's cousin in Pensacola. We stayed in Dacatur and I got a glimpse of some of your high school football stadiums around there. Good lord those are some big stadiums for high school.

The guy that sits in the cubicle next to mine at work is from Mobile and is a big time Alabama fan (explained to me what the deal is with those elephants). He and I talk college football everyday almost.

I was wondering what your take was on that AM game. So Manziel could be up there with Newton as far as dual threat by his junior or senior year?

I havent gone anywhere bro. Been here the whole time talking Bama dominance and about how WVU blows while throwing in a few Loservilles.

You got that right bro!

I cant wait to light up that line that will likely be something like Bama - 8.5 vs Notre Dame. This is a huge lock. Notre Dame may not score in this matchup. And despite how strong ND's defense is said to be, I can promise you Bama has played tougher ones this year in the SEC. With a month to prepare and everyone fresh, I see Bama having no problem scoring 20, and thats if ND dosent even turn it over and give Bama easy scoring chances. If that happens, it could get real ugly because Bama could get will into the 30s and perhaps more. This matchup will look real similar to the Michigan contest. Bama will ROLL early and often.

Congrats on your HS teams run.

As for the Tide, I totally agree we shouldve ran the ball down there after the big catch to the 6. You have to pound that several times with Lacy in that situation. If A & M had still been in the big 12 this year, they wouldve had a real shot at going undefeated and playing Bama for the title.

It didnt end. Id clean your loupe and check again.

People fall for it every year. College football is so predictable. The same things happen every year. Yet, every year by Halloween people assume whoever is still undefeated will run the table.

I wasn't referring to the season. I was referring to the game ending on a neutral zone infraction on a punt.

Having 2 SEC teams in the title game is detrimental. I know a lot of fans that won't watch yet another 13-6 defensive game. Having ND will get huge ratings but bad football. ND is highly over rated. Sadly, I am losing interest in college football and probably wont watch much of it until they fix the present system.

OR ORRRRRRRRRRRRRR OR ...........

Something real similar to what I called a couple of weeks ago could happen!!! :rotfl1:

Get your mind right bro.

If ND loses to USC, the question becomes does Florida back in as I suggested or as the talking heads suggested today in this scenario, would Oregon get back in there as the one loss team? If of course they can actually beat Oregon St next week.

Its going to be interesting to see. Florida has a tough game they could easily lose as well vs. Florida St. However, would a win like that secure them as the #2 team if ND were to lose and Bama beats Georgia?

A lot of teams would have an argument thats for sure.

All I know is ROLL TIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How does that 5 losses in a row taste btw, Bumpus?

:bobdole:

God, I hate being colossally wrong.

And now the stage is all set.

ND wins tonight, they play the Bama/Georgia winner for the title.

If ND loses to USC, then Florida finds itself in the exact scenario I suggested in the OP of this thread. The same scenario Bama was in last year.

It just shows more and more why this whole system of rankings in college football is a joke. We all know those top 6 SEC teams are the best 6 teams in the country...... well most of us do. Those of us with a clue at least. Some of us on here listen to too much hip hop and think Oregon can compete.

Nevertheless, the point is that if ND loses, Florida finds itself in a more advantageous position than if they had beaten Georgia. As a reward for Georgia winning against Florida, they have to face Bama in a conference title game before the BCS championship. Florida can fail to win its own division in conference and be in the drivers seat by avoiding a conference championship game. Hell, they would be ranked 3rd behind Bama and Georgia, so really they are in better shape than Bama who will be #1. It makes no sense.

They really need to do away with these conference championship games. How fair is it that Bama or Georgia has to eliminate themselves when Georgia already beat Florida and has the same record?

As I said all year, they should simply make the SEC championship game the BCS championship. Its all that matters. Just as Georgia shouldnt have to beat Bama to play them in the BCS championship, Bama should not have to knock off Georgia and then turn around and beat a team Georgia has already beaten in the championship game.

I almost hope ND wins just so Bama can humiliate them and its easy money. Bama/Florida would clearly be the more competative game.

Makes me want to just drop my pants and **** right here in public knowing that I have to root for Notre Dame tonight.

Go **** yourself, Florida State.

Also, how ridiculous is it that if Stanford beats UCLA, they have clearly demonstrated to be the best team in the PAC 12 through regular season play. Yet, somehow they would have to beat them again next week to be declared conference champion. Thats insane.

If UCLA beats Stanford next week after losing to them today(if they do lose today) how in the hell would they have proven to be the superior team and rightful conference champ?

Do away with these conference championship games. Jesus.

Relax. It dosent matter anyway. You and I both know it. No matter how they lined this **** up, in the end, all that will matter is...............................................................

ROLL DAMN TIDE!!!!!!!!
