Bedard Blog: Cam's Offense/Joey Porter

Some coaches are better at adjusting to their personel and some are better at making schemes that work and finding players to play those schemes.

The blog wrote it like Cameron is a coach that builds a system and then finds players.

In SD cam had a Great TE/RB/FB with Average receivers. Sounds to me that he tailored that offense to their strengths....

I kinda liked his speculation about Lorenzo B. playing the LaDainian Tomlinson role better then Brown. I was thinking the same thing previously. Cam seemed to draw up plays to take advantage specifically of LT's quickness and I think that bodes well more so for LB than RB this year. Ronnie can run fast but he's not necessarily know for his quickness.

I also agree with his take on D Martin. He was brought in to play in the A. Gates role (not known for his monster blocking) in this offense. Randy M. wouldn't have been a good option for that. While the jury's still out on Martin, the opportunity for him to produce is there.

Weren't all those brought in during his time there?

They have been trying to get a "great receiver" for a while...They aquired David boston, then were so desperate they signed mcardell in the middle of the season. They had drafted Reche caldwell high (2nd round). in the 05 draft they took vincent jackson in the second round....

AJ smith prefers to draft his own talent, but when he drafts he refuses to reach for need so sometimes he's unable to get a receiver for the right value because they are so over priced some times...

Cam had absolutely no say in SD. Marty had absolutely no say in SD.

I agree .. up until this year. I think they had a horrible draft but then again they didn't have many holes. He reached hard and for need this year.

Still doen't mean people weren't brought in because they fit a certain offensive scheme.

Why would Mcmichael not be good for that role, he is known more for his receiving than his blocking although Linehan loves his blocking and paid him a nice contract to play for them.

well I think the nickname Mcdrop had some merit...Randy seemed to drop the ball at in a LOT of critical situations.

I think he did go through a patch like that but much like Chambers his drops are quite exaggerated and Martin has never in seven years proven much as a TE so we cannot assume he will do a better job than McMichael who was our most productive TE ever in franchise history. You have to be on the field in key situations to prove yourself and sitting on the bench in key stiutions like martin leaves him very much a mystery.

He certainly is but the bird in the hand (McMike) obviously was not worth the financial investment or the baggage in the new regimes eyes...Im ok with that until its proven foolhardy.

Because although Randy was athletic he was a better blocker than a receiver in his last few years... maybe it was because of the offense he was in or that he worked harder at his blocking and figured his receiving was good enough, I don't know. But a lot has been said about how Martin is a better athlete and receiver that appears to fit well with Cam's offenses.

And maybe Randy could have adjusted we'll never know. All I was alluding to was that it is the belief that it's why they went with Martin instead of McMichael to fill the "Gates" role.

Mcmichael is slow. Cameron wants a Fast receiving TE in the gates mold. Martin is a converted WR so he fits that bill...
