Beginning of dec., Ireland told his job is safe

^^THIS

Finally some rationality...

God no. Ireland had had his fair share of time. Players will adjust and play better? Okay I guess Wheeler hadn't been underwhelmingly average his whole career? Now everyone who had a down year is going to just all of the sudden play worlds better?

The reason this team didn't make the playoffs was because the players quit on the coaching staff. Shermin, Coyle and Philbin were being out coached and out schemed by every team. It was obvious to everyone. They were (Philbin, Coyle, Shermin) living in a bubble of self assurance. The players soon realized that the staff had no answers and they were being blamed for poor performances when actually the coaches were putting them in bad positions. Philbins lack of criticism of Shermin, and in fact his support of Shermin was the final straw. The team was not beaten, the players quit. The only way to fix this is to clean house.

Excellent point and something to really think about. Definitely part of it. I am sure some of this occurred. Questions that arise if some of this is true;

1. Has Philbin lost the locker room
2. Maybe the swagger comment really got under the players skin. No one know's how this comment was perceived. All I do know is the team definitely laid an egg for 2 weeks after the comment was made.
3. Is this fixable if Philbin stays. If he has lost the players.......well we are ****ed

the team had no heart this year. Started the year with idiotic comments about running for over 1500 yards and so on.

Because he feels since he has been successful in business he actually knows what he is doing in football. As a business the dolphins have been run bad and as a football team we get the same mediocre results while he makes hollow promises. Ireland has been the Gm for 6 damn years but people feel like he is not to blame, he is the one constant in our mediocrity. I mean sure if u give him 10 years maybe u make the playoffs a couple of times but hell any gm could have that result

OK my bad I thought you were calling me arrogant. I apologize to you Sir.

I could see him being perceived that way. There is something about his demeanor. If you get what I mean you see it in people of his stature. What I mean is others that come to mind: Mark Cuban, Robert Kraft, Bill Gates, Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, George Bush Sr and Jr. I don't know how else to explain it other then it is like they have a secret and there not going to tell us about it and they think it's funny. I know that sounds crazy.

I get what you mean though and this is my whole thing. It is easy to blame Ireland. I am not saying he does not deserve some of it. What I am saying is everyone is to blame for the state of this once awesome franchise. The coaches, each one of them individually have blame. The Players, each one has some blame. Everyone in the front office, the scouts, even the water boy. Until we recognize where the blame lies, distribute it and then correct it we are spinning our wheels.

I get the fact that Ireland is the overseer and that the buck is supposed to stop with him. However, I also recognize reality. Ireland or any other GM for that matter, does not personally oversee every move each one of his "Indians" make. That is where individual responsibility comes into play. Ignoring or refusing to recognize individual responsibility, which is a huge part of this process is ,....well.....irresponsible. This I believe to be Ross's current predicament. He is the ultimate overseer who has not nor ever will know exactly who is responsible for certain aspects. He shouldn't have to know. He should point and it should happen. Now that the team has failed to function to his standards, he will investigate who is "responsible". I am thankful for his wisdom in not over reacting to the situation.

Some people complain about the meddling owners. Example is Jerry Jones. He knows who is responsible directly because he is immersed in the team and it's everyday low level functions. In a way he is functioning as a secondary GM or the GM. Personally I like Ross being involved, but from a distance. This keeps his arrogance in check. We can't have it both ways. We either want a hands off owner or one that is like Jerry Jones or Danial Snyder.

The Miami Dolphins used to be back in the late 80's early 90's the Winning-est team in Sports History. In all sports!!! This was a very very respected Franchise. Ross is aware of this fact and I believe really, truly wants to fix it. I also think he is aware of his own limitations and to some degree arrogance because he is not reacting off the cuff. That's easy. Cleveland did it with Chudzinski and they will regret it. We may never hear it in the media but it is there. It is also a sign of Cleveland's front offices experience. They are supposed to know better. For now I am OK waiting for a decision.

You confuse me, you want excellence AND wanted to keep Meatball.

Then you defend the molester Icognito, who has repeatedly demonstrated bad behavior to the degree that he has been kick of EVERY team he has ever played for. Its a pattern, Ireland should have seen it coming, its his job, especially AFTER the golf incident. Who drafted Martin again? Who went into this season relying on him to be the starting LT? The idiot GM you are desperately trying to defend.

Laughable? Our Pass blocking improved with McKinnie. Look up the stats, they have been posted in 100s of the threads. It dropped like 2 full sacks a game without those two.

Then you go back to Morono defending, if you think field goals and windmill fist pumps are exciting, I'm speechless. They pissed me off to no end.

Yes I want excellence.

I also never said I wanted to keep Sparano. I said, and I stand by my post, He was treated like SH*T. That was unprofessional, unethical and pompous of Ross to do him that way. People can make fun of the fist pump and all that, but the man had heart and he loved this team. For me that is good enough. Some coaches could learn a little from him. If Ross decides to make changes....we will suffer because of the way Sparano was treated.

I am defending Incognito. Because he deserves to be defended. As far as Ritchie goes there is one thing that he always brought, and that is something we sorely missed the rest of the season.....a punch you in the mouth mentality and his best effort. It becomes infinitely harder to play a team that you know will claw your eyes out if your not careful. That's the stuff that is invaluable. Incognito did what he was asked to do.....toughen up Martin. It's the truth. He was never told "How" to toughen him up. Let me assure you of one thing. Ritchie was picked because Ireland and Philbin knew he would get it done. He and only he had the cinchona's to do it. His choices on how he did it are questionable. But, shouldn't ireland and Philbin have known that? Or did they and that is why he was picked?

I stated facts. Ireland and Philbin jerked Long's chain. Jake Long - We let him walk, most cheered he was gone. Now almost everyone is bitching Ireland didn't fix the line and should be fired, then some of the posters, including yourself are saying the line got better. So which is it? You guys wanted Long gone and Ritchie cut, now your looking back and want to place blame on Ireland when you cheered the decision's made previously. Hypocritical to say the least!! Philbin was all up in long when it went down. Philbin had a lot of say as to what players were here and let go. Why do we know this? It comes from multiple sources: Philbin, Ireland, Ross, Long and Incognito's Dad. Philbin is very much a part of the process.

The deal was Philbin came in with his staff (yr 5 for Jeff) and installed his schemes and systems and evaluated the talent. He got with Jeff over the off season (yr 6) and they collectively made changes including: Long, Dansby, Burnette, Clabo, Bush, Vonte Davis, Grimes, etc Obviously, since Philbin is a career Offensive line coach they thought they had the line covered until next year. No one could have known what would happen with Martin. Except of course.....GOD

So did Ireland/Philbin do the best they could with what they had to work with? Easy answer

You just stated things got better. We went from 8 sacks a game to 6. I'm excited. Could have just been Tanne getting rid of the ball faster?

lol I don't get it either.

I understand that some people are afraid of change because it could always bring something worse, however I personally can't live life that way. There are risks we take everyday in life, change is something that happens whether you want to or not. Sometimes its for the better, sometimes its for the worst, but you got to keep moving forward.

Even if you just condense the last 2 seasons and focus on Philbin's time here alone, I don't see how people can say we are on the right path.

I've seen this movie before, and it doesn't end well.

Yep you been or I should say I have been watching it for the last 41 years...............you know since we last won the super-bowl

41 ****ing years ............lets just keep blowing it up every 2 or 3 years
