Bengals to let Anthony Collins test market

i think there's reason for pause when his existing team doesn't want to pay $6 mil per and $5 mil guaranteed to a starting 28 year old left tackle coming off a no sack season...definitely something a miss there

I think money tied to the cap and having in house replacement (Andrew Whitworth) allows them some leeway. However you are right to be skeptical. I thought he looked good coming out of KSU but really has not played solid snaps until this year due to injury. He's played both tackle spots and before this year he was an ideal swing tackle.

yeah but they really liked him working with whitworth kicked inside to left guard when he came back from injury...so it still seems odd to me...they definitely have a fallback in whitworth though so maybe they want to play hard ball...still $6 mil per and $5 mil guaranteed for a starting left tackle off that pass pro season is chump change...the guaranteed money is worth it by itself

Cincy already has 11-12 million invested in Tackles and may feel that adding another 6 to that number would be far too much for the unit, also Witworth and Smith are already a solid pair .

If im not mistaken he was a backup who came in after an injury. Cinci is willing to let him walk because they already have a guy there that they like. He is probably worth between 5-6 but to cinci with another guy his value is not as high with them.

I would still put him as a backup plan if you cant get 1 of the top 3 with Albert being the most likely.

It's called not enough coin to go around. Checkout the reason why Cincinnati will have to face some tough decisions coming up...

2014 Bengals free agents

OT Anthony Collins
LB Michael Boley
DB Chris Crocker
CB Brandon Ghee
WR Andrew Hawkins
DE Michael Johnson (will go to free agency if not franchise tagged a second-straight year)
DB Taylor Mays
OG Mike Pollak
LB Vincent Rey
OT Dennis Roland
WR Dane Sanzenbacher
TE Alex Smith
WR Ryan Whalen

2015 Bengals free agents

QB Andy Dalton
WR A.J. Green
DE Christo Bilukidi
OG Clint Boling
LB Vontaze Burfict
C Kyle Cook
RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis
TE Jermaine Gresham
CB Leon Hall
LB Emmanuel Lamur
CB Chris Lewis-Harris
LB Rey Maualuga
CB Terence Newman
K Mike Nugent
RB Cedric Peerman
DT Domata Peko
C Trevor Robinson
QB Zac Robinson
LB J.K. Schaffer

As you can see they have to carefully prioritize their spending in order to retain the foundation of their "explosive" offense next year.

how can you not have burfict bolded on that list...yeah looks like cap concerns and contracts...although if they pay dalton franchise money they are nuts...burfict will get top 5 money and green will break $100 million...

ok you guys have made me a believer in the cap and money in tackles already being the issue...i suppose...i just wonder if there's some inhouse stuff that the front office doesn't like...ie work ethic etc

Well, if your alternative is to pay McKinnie similar money for another year's declining production, it strikes me as a move with little enough downside. Regardless of what Cincy's reasoning is for letting him go.

I see tons of major obstacles there for 2015. That frankly looks brutal. But, 2014 looks quite clear to me. If the idea is too much locked up in OT's then maybe we can get one.

They are looking at lots of major investments in 2015 if Dalton and Green come off their rookie contracts and Burfict off his UDFA agreement. Then having Peko and Gresham ... sounds like a cap nightmare.

Would not surprise me if Cincy drafted a QB this draft. Something tells me Cincy is not all in on Andy Dalton...truthfully the guy is winning with one of the most talented rosters in the league but not because of him, in spite of him.

AJ Green however, will cost them quite a bit to re-sign. Burfict is getting undrafted rookie free agent money and he's been their leading tackler the last two years...he's not going to be cheap to re-sign either. Cook and Gresham would be the other two key free agents they need to re-sign for 2015.

I read yesterday that Michael Johnson will be free to test the market.

This is how I feel precisely.
Also recall that Kevin Coyle overlapped with him for 3 years on the team(I know other side, but still). So hopefully we can get some insider insight on any glaring issues.
