Benny Sapp or Will Allen ?

Will allen was once our number one.. He, when healthy, was a top 15 corner. Hes better than benny but is he worth his contact?

I personally think Allen is overrated but he played well last night and most likely will stick as our #4 best CB since none of the young guys Carroll, Ness etc.. have done anything this offseason to merritt being rated anything better then #5 or #6 CB.

I Still think Sapp plays the Nickel. Dont think Will Allen has the speed anymore to cover the quicker receivers coming across the field. But Allen seems to still be able to bring the wood.

You guys have short memorys. Benny Sapp made some horrible plays for us last year. I would choose Allen over Sapp any day.

I know this site is usually in GM mode and will typically go with the younger, cheaper player but I keep Sapp and Allen and dump one of the young guys in this case. That gives us 4 guys who can play at CB in a pass happy league. It would have been nice to see Carroll or Ness step up and be players we could trust but they really haven't. I keep Sapp and Allen on this roster.

Sapp gets a bad rap but that's a very, very tough position to play. I've also heard Sapp can't play outside, maybe Allen gives us the flexibility to play outside and move Vontae to the slot in some cases. Afterall that's what most "elite" corners can do.

I thought Allen showed some speed last night, he covered Olgletree pretty well a few times, and he is a speed WR.

Allen at this point is our 4th best CB by my calculations. There is no reason to keep a vet to be our 4th,5th or 6th CB on a roster. Those should be for one of the youngins to continue to develop. Remember Ness & Carroll are only in their second years and third years as pros and still need time to develop. If they see potential in either or both there is no reason to cut them at this point.

I was going to make the exact same point, so well done. I don't think Sapp is going anywhere as he is the only one that consistently can hold onto the ball when he has a chance to make a play on it. The young guys still have time to develop and missed out on time with the team this offseason. Allen is a significant injury risk, and could get caught up in a numbers game.

Frankly, I think that WR and CB are two positions you can never have enough players to swap in and out due to the need for fresh legs there. The coaches will probably keep Allen if Carroll is seeming like he is regressing or has (somehow) hit his ceiling of development.

I liked Ness last year, but this year he has looked like crap. All he has done is show that he can make tackles after he allows 15 yard completions. Done with him. Carroll hasn't looked like much either...

I haven't been impressed with either Ness or Carroll this pre-season either, I'd keep Sapp and Allen over those 2.

If feel the same way about Ness and Carroll.

Its too bad...I liked the way Ness looked last year. He just doesn't look like the same player this year. I don't even see him getting close to break-ups...I'm actually quite disappointed in him.

cut ness keep sapp...keep will allen if you can't trade him...keep carroll and wilson...cut something else someplace else

will allen provided he's gonna be able to practice during the week and play on sunday barring trade should stay...we're gonna see a lot of teams trying to spread us out with 4 even 5 wrs this year we need as much cb depth as we can get

You guys need to have more patience for the young guys and less patience for aging vets.

Barring any injuries neither Caroll nor Ness will see alot of time on the field. Why cut them? Let them develop. And if this regime doesnt feel that Carroll or Ness is worth the development then they need to watch the cut list for young CB's to develop.
