Berlin's story?

Everyone likes an underdog but unfortunately Berlin does not have enough talent or upside to make him a developmental QB.

Last I looked, no team has a qb on the PS. The third qb runs the "Show" team.

There is just no necessity for a forth qb. Can't remember the last time someone kept four.

Am I mistaken here?

I was surprised Brock Berlin did not make the practice squad. But, IMO, Brock Berlin not making the practice squad means that Saban and Linehan are going to draft a QB (or possibly trade for a young QB) this off-season - unless their existing trio of QBs exceeds Saban's and Linehan's expectations.

he had a horrendous training camp. It was so bad that training camp reports from both the media and fans made a point to express surprise when he actually completed a pass.
Doesnt surprise me at all that he is currently out of football.

Brock's stats last year were pretty good. 2680 yards, 22 TDs, 6 picks, and a 138.14 QB rating. But I never felt very comfortable while watching him. I felt kind of the same way I did watching Jay Fiedler.....like, he had a really good winning percentage, but every time he dropped back to pass I felt like something bad was going to happen.

That being said, even though it was against scrubs, I was impressed with how he played in the preseason. I wouldn't have minded if the team held onto him, but I understand why he was let go. I hope he latches on somewhere.

Berlin has a weak arm, poor accuracy, poor size and tendency for the bone headed interception that makes feeley look poised. If Berlin hadn't played at a high profile program he wouldn't have even made a team as a camp arm and the fact anyone considered him to have nfl potential is laughable and says it all about the cane homerism and knee jerk attitude which so often afflicts this message board

What a QB doesn in college does NOT equate to what he can do in the NFL for most instances. Far to many uneducated forum members talk about what player IS great and SHOULD be playing. When in fact, none of us have any type of skill in evaluating NFL talent.

Fact is, he was decent in college. He was limited to the shotgun. And that limits a running game to a point. And in the NFL, having limits is bad...really bad. See him in the shotgun, see a blitz just waiting to happen.

As much as you'd like to see him in the NFL, its not going to happen anytime soon.

Overall, I agree with you.
Having watched him at UM I did'nt see any NFL talent there.

However, we signed him as a FA for a reason. I think that the viewpoints of some here hold merit that by adding him to the PS just to see how he could develop holds no negatives. Maybe Saban has his eye on another project to bring in or he saw negatives in Berlin's play that us armchair coaches just didn't notice as he squared off against 3rd & 4th string Defenses.

Can't state that enough.
It was the strangest thing to watch.
The guy could stink up the joint for 2 quarters, then they'd put him back into the shotgun and BOOM, he's slinging it all over the place. Regardless, even with his heroics in the shotgun, inconsistency would always catch up with him.
For every good play Berlin found ways to make 2 disastrous ones.
