WTF, since when does the GM help pick what players start. I want Philbin to pick the starters based on who practices and plays the best. The GM gets the talent, the coach develops it! Ireland can dictate who he wants to start therefor justifying his draft picks. This seems kinda dysfunctional to me. I think Ireland has to much power and a big ego to go with it.

Listen to HOUR 2- starting at 9:00 it starts, then listen at 12:00 to Big O's comments. I accept all apologies!

Did you maybe take it out of context? Is it possible they meant players that they bring in from FA or the draft as in as starters and not necessarily watching practice and dictating who starts over who? I'm just asking because I didn't hear the interview.

The way i read this is Jeff Ireland Joe Philbin will each have their say when it comes to selecting players... they didn't mean starters specifically (IE Jeff has a say in who starts and who sits).

No link, listening to the interview now. And no I didn't miss understand, Ireland said he will be helping decide who starts. The Big O even commented on it said he didn't like the idea either.

http://wftlsports.com/ Station link, I'm sure someone else heard it too. Look for transcripts later.

Not selecting players, deciding WHO will start. The topic was John Jerry, and Ireland said, again I quote "it will be a collaborative decision on who the starters will be" END QUOTE

There is no reading about it, he said what he said and I heard it clear as day. I was shocked he would say this

What I read was this: "Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland, who does have final say on the roster, explains that the decision making process from here on out "is a collective decision making process. You guys get to wrapped up into my call, or his call. The way the process works fellas is it's a collective decision making process. We're going to sit in the room and talk things out. We're going to come out with an agreement one way or the other."

I don't see a big issue with this at all. Whatever system is in place I'm sure was discussed prior to Philbin taking the job and between the two of them they will agree on starters. You guys get too wrapped up in everything that is said.

Unless Philbin invited Ireland to weigh in on who the starters should be, he's crossing the line. I don't want the players wondering what Jeff Ireland thinks every time Joe Philbin tells them to do something.

Did you hear the interview?

This all comes down to Ireland having too much power. I was never against him like a lot of people on this site, but I'm thinking these last few months have really gone to his head. Not so sure I like him anymore. You can't tell me he is going to watch every practice in it's entirety, then make an educated decision on who he thinks should start. Just remember he can pull rank on Philbin. Isn't this the reason a coach/gm hardly ever works in the NFL. This is just the reverse.
