Big O Ireland interview: "picking starters will be a collaborative effort".

13MARINO:

where did you here him say this?

damn! dont tell me the party is over before it even gets started again.

and i cant believe philbin wanted to be here sooo bad he would agree to that. he is a coach with a pretty stellar reputation and if this was his only h/c shot this year [doubtfully] another would come along shortley. and it sure doesnt suck to be coaching in greenbay right now if he was to pass on miami.

this is just SOOOOO frigin' wierd! i want this kind of wierdness to stop around this team. sounds like ego boy just wants someone to move his chess pieces around for him and then have all the glory.

i can see that blowing up real fast, not only between them, but also in the locker room. this bunch of guys favors irelands choice. this bunch over there prefers philbins choice. not a recipe for cohesion at all.

CLUSTERPHHUK!!!!

Without hearing the interview, I would imagine the out of context is Ireland has said it is a collaborative effort. He scouts the players, and he and the head coach will pick (as in the draft or free agency) the players who hopefully will be starters. There are plenty of links, that don't need to be pulled out of anyone's ***, that state Ireland's job is to scout and Philbin's job is to coach and choose the starters. The hatred for Ireland on this board is insane. People hear what they want to hear. Notice how no media outlet is making a big deal of this except someone on this board. It was taken out of context.

Did he say he was part of this collaboration? If he said something along the lines of "it will be a collaborative effort", couldn't that very easily mean a collaborative effort between Philbin and the position coach?

Until theres clarification on what he meant with whatever it is he exactly said, calm down.
If only I were a pharmaceutical rep. I'd make a fortune from this site selling blood pressure meds

what is it about the word collaborative that you dont understand?

NRA:

The media interviewed him at the Senior bowl, It was played on the Big O show today. The Big O even commented on how unorthodox this was. He said Ireland would be able to justify his draft picks by having them start.

SNAKEOIL: i havnt seen the article or video. but the guy who made this thread said he heard it from irelands lips and that he would involved on who the starters are. didnt say anything about hopfeull starters.

yes, we all know that the line was established with ireland picking the draft choices and f/a's and philbin in charge of the staff. everyone he picks is a "HOPEFUL" starter. it sounds like the emphasis was on COLABORATING with who starts on game day and not just repeating what we all know already that he is picking the players for the dolphins.

i want the professional coach picking the players for his sytem, not some glorified armchair guru [thats all ireland is, he just gets paid for it] forcing his favorites in.

i am hoping this IS wrong or a misunderstanding of what was said.

Bi polar meds would go like proverbial "hot cakes" around here

Why are we working ourselves into a hissy fit? They all talk about it: that's the collaboration. Then Coach starts whomever the hell he pleases, because he has final say on who plays.

. But when asked whether he projects John Jerry – who filled in as tackle and guard this past season – as a 2012 starter, Ireland said, “John has come a long way. He has a long way to go. He needs to get better. But he has a chance.” I am still looking for the entire quote, but he went on to say that it was a decision he and Philbin would make together. If this wasn't his intent then why wouldn't he just have said that is coach Philbins decision to make. Why would the reporter ask if "he" projected Jerry as a starter, shouldn't he be asking that of the head coach. I will find the entire quote eventually and post it, I know what I heard.

Van halen fan, I get it

where is Big O nowadays? I liked listening to him because he only talked about the Fins. WQAM pooped the bed on that decision. Joe Rose's voice annoys the $#!t out of me. I'd rather light myself on fire than listen to Michael Irving, and Sid is just a complete @$$#%le.
