One name I'm hearing if the Dolphins don't bring back Soliai or Starks: San Diego's Cam Thomas.
 
Im not too concerned. With Odrick already there, Some really good FA available this year, as well as a deep draft of DT's the money can be better used elsewhere.
 
Our middle of the defense wasn't dominant by any means. Big Paul wants big money we have to move on.

Keeping Grimes in a Phin's uni was a bigger priority as we need to have guys who can shut down Brady's passing game, more so than the Pat's running game. The Jets cannot run the ball, but we are going to need a run stopper against the Bills and CJ Spiller.

I think Timmy Jernigan or Aaron Donald could be targets if they drop to us, especially if we could sign LT Eugene Monroe. If not, than Zack Martin OT/OG, Notre Dame could still be our 1st round pick. If Donald were to slip past the Cowboys, whose defense stinks, than I would be running to the podium to get him. :up:

Aaron Donald is a small quick gap penetrator guy like Starks, Odrick, Shelby ... that's all for 1 position of DT. The other position is the space eater type that occupies OL and keeps the LB's clean to make plays. Jernigan could play it ... but why? We already have someone better than Jernigan and he fits our system fine. What we need are OT's and OG's. I surely hope we don't waste a 1st rounder in this draft on DT given it's depth and our extreme need along the OL.

Without a space eater along the lines of Soliai, someone who is a 330+ monster with unreal strength and arms to occupy multiple blockers and not lose ground ... our run defense is gonna suck. So if we don't re-sign Soliai, then we need to pay even more money in FA for someone to do the exact same thing.

good lord we going dirt cheap if that's the case...thomas has come on and become pretty solid but his conditioning isn't great and if you want a 2 down max plugger well that's all you'd get there...

he doesnt have solias lateral quickness and movement skills...
 
Personally I don't think losing Solai is that big. We could get a true 4-3 DT that fits the defense.

I've heard it too. I don't know a lot about him. But sometimes there is truth behind a rumor.

He's replaceable and is coming off a sub par yr.
He was never given a hometown discount. He was paid fair market value for what he is. He's a 2 down DT.

Agreed. To be honest, we had a good run stopping defense for 2 of his 7 years.....years that we also had Dansby and Burnett. I want to keep him of course, but he is what he is......
